Working among underprivileged communities of rural Nepal, RRN has been implementing integrated community development programmes and projects at the grassroots level and policy advocacy, lobbying and networking at local, national, and international levels.\r\n\r\nRRN embraces a two-pronged approach for its development intervention: (i) Working with peasant people by implementing integrated community development projects and action-oriented research focusing on the poorest and most vulnerable people/groups in rural areas and (ii) Policy research, advocacy, campaign and lobbying at the local, national, and international levels on the root causes of poverty; the problems of the resource poor; and social, economic, and cultural rights; and the right to development and environmental degradation.\r\n\r\nRRN is the only national NGO with extended capacity and development outreach that has successfully implemented various result-oriented, rights-based, integrated community development initiatives addressing the frustrated expectations of the poor, marginalised, vulnerable and conflict affected people. RRN has a proven track record of its engagement for economic, social and cultural rights and right to development by implementing pro-people development programmes, facilitating to exercise the community owned and managed integrated approaches, especially in the conflict sensitive societies.\r\n\r\nAll development programmes of RRN focus on the fourfold approach of Rural Reconstruction as the foundation upon which its programme and project activities are based on:\r\n• Education: to combat illiteracy and ignorance and provide exposure to the outside world\r\n• Sustainable livelihoods: to fight poverty and hunger\r\n• Health: to prevent disease and promote rights to health\r\n• Self-Government: to overcome civic inertia through institutional development leading to self-reliance\r\n\r\nSince 1997, RRN has enjoyed the Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and is also accredited to the Global Environment Facility (GEF). FIT is part of a network of organizations initiated by ILO in six African Countries in East Central and West Africa in the early 90s. FIT has identified personnel to be a key resource in development and therefore places Capacity Building at the core of its activities.\r\n\r\nFIT believes that effective services that blend well with the objectives of development agencies, governments and those of target beneficiaries will increase growth and generate employment. Our strategy for sustainable livelihoods is to improve the supply of sustainable development services and skills to communities and SMEs through capacity building and access to markets and or services.\r\n\r\nIn Kenya and most countries in Sub Saharan Africa 80% of the population reside in rural areas with approximately 90% deriving their livelihoods from agriculture and agriculture related activities. The highest poverty levels are also to be found in the rural areas. FIT has therefore concentrated on promoting initiatives in the rural areas aimed at promoting agriculture as a business.\r\n\r\nFIT therefore believes that targeting the poorest people to be able to participate in their own development will spur sustainable poverty alleviation across board. Hence FIT Programmes have focused on promoting initiatives that are cost effective and can be implemented by the people themselves.\r\n\r\nFIT Resources offers exceptional collective knowledge and experience in innovative approaches to agricultural & enterprise development, intervention design, implementation and evaluation, management, and diversification of income resources among the rural poor. Our programmes have helped many entrepreneurs and development organizations to restructure and rationalize and commercialize their activities in order to improve wealth creation leading to improved and sustainable livelihoods.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do\r\n\r\nBroadly, FIT promotes SME development through:\r\n\r\n•\tResearch\r\n•\tDesign and implementation of programmes\r\n•\tProject analysis, design and or management \r\n•\tMonitoring and Evaluation of SME projects\r\n•\tCapacity building for institutions who work with SMEs\r\n\r\nMain Focus\r\n\r\nFIT works with and through:\r\n\r\n•\tMedia houses in the development and implementation of commercially viable media programmes that benefit smallholder farmers mainly in rural communities. FIT builds capacities of Media staff and consultants,\r\n•\tDonors, Governments and trade associations that promote smallholder farmers in specific sub-sectors especially honey and the horticultural sub-sectors. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants working for governments and donors and,\r\n•\tFinancial institutions that support micro-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants in financial institutions. \r\n\r\n\r\nStandards and Monitoring\r\n\r\nAll FIT projects are subject to continuous monitoring, feedback and regular reviews to ensure that the assignments are completed within prescribed timeframe and emerging issues consistently addressed.\r\n\r\nInstitutional Links\r\n\r\nNetworking is a fundamental component of FIT’s business strategy. FIT was established by ILO as a network of organisations in six East, Central and West Africa. The network provides FIT enormous opportunities experience sharing and support amongst the network members.
