"description": "50% of the irrigated area is currently affected by salinization while 19% is threatened by soil erosion. Salinization reduces cotton yields by 20-30% on slightly salinized lands, 40-60% on moderately salinized lands, and 80% or more on heavily salinized lands. Agriculture faces declining productivity as high water tables, inappropriate irrigation and under-maintained drainage systems increase salinization and water logging and the fertility of arable land declines. This reduction in the resource base is estimated to cost about $1 billion annually in foregone economic output. 30,000 Ha are being lost to salinity build up each year.\r\nRecognizing the severity of the land degradation scenario, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a decree on October 30, 2007, No. УП-3932 \"On efficient strengthening of land reclamation system”. This Decree established the National Irrigated Land Reclamation Fund, and its executing agency, the Fund Management Department, under the Ministry of Finance. The decree assigns management responsibility for the Fund to the Prime Minister.\r\nThe Fund is responsible for financing construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of interregional and inter-farm open collectors, vertical drainage, horizontal drainage, pump stations, and monitoring stations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MAWR) is responsible for repair and maintenance of on farm drainage systems. The Presidential Decree requires five year programs to be developed that identify financing priorities.",

"description": "Simavi is a Netherland-based international nonprofit organization founded in 1925. Simavi’s history was initiated in Indonesia through provision of medical assistance for health institutions. In its early years, Simavi shipped medicines, essential health supplies and resources over the ocean to support the work of medical staff. Ever since then, Simavi has shifted from transporting medicines to working with an integrated approach on local, national and international levels to improve basic health standards in 9 developing countries of 2 continents, Africa and Asia. \r\n\r\nDriven by a belief that basic health is a crucial stepping-stone for building a better existence and breaking the cycle of poverty, Simavi aims to have a world in which basic health is accessible to all. To be more focused, Simavi works on two areas which are vital for people: (1) Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH), and (2) Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). We view that everyone has the right to enjoy basic health conditions, including clean water and adequate sanitation; awareness on hygiene; comprehensive reproductive education; and reproductive health care. \r\n\r\nWASH and SRHR related health problems cannot be solved by individuals or groups working alone; rather, they require sustainable long-term solutions that allow systems to be changed and stakeholders to be in regular communication with each other. Simavi’s Theory of Change is designed to ensure this will happen by involving everyone, from community, private sector to governmental level, to work together towards the same goal: the structural improvement of basic health. "description": "Established in 1989, ADEMO was the first DPO in Mozambique with around 80,000 members spread throughout the country’s 11 provinces. But ADEMO suffers – as do so many developing world DPOs – from scarce resources, which is why DDP partnered ADEMO in the Disability and Development Programme (DADP), in which the central element was to develop ADEMO’s capacity to represent disabled people throughout Mozambique.\n\nRecognised as the ‘voice’ of disabled people in Mozambique, ADEMO have made links with a range of government ministries, such as Health, Women and Social Affairs, Labour and Education, which consult ADEMO on provisions for disabled people when drafting new policies.\n\nDDP and ADEMO continue to work together to develop sustainable programmes such as income generation at the provincial level and to address the issue of the exclusion of disabled people from HIV/AIDS policies and programmes in Mozambique, where HIV prevalence is high.\n\nAt the same time, ADEMO and DDP know that the most effective means of securing the inclusion of disabled people as full and equal citizens will be through advocacy (lobbying and campaigning) and so the programmes we run together will continue to include training and resources to strengthen ADEMO’s skills in this area.",

The director of the organization is trained in the program of ADPP, which has a project center in Bilibiza in which various affordable water technologies are produced, and where training is given. GSB produces good quality latrine slabs. They have recieved training in making proper latrines and were also trained in carpentry and bricklaying and making cheap gutters from zinc roof plates. GSB also produces cement blocks as a commercial product. During the project Grupo has clearly improved its capacities and they were also noted by the District Government and supported by them.",

"description": "AFORD Foundation (Aid for Development) is a local non-governmental organisation operating in the northern region of Ghana, with its headquarters in Tamale. AFORD was founded in 1996 and registered in 1997 by a group of development workers desiring to assist victims of the 1994 ethnic conflict in the northern region to rebuild their lives.\r\n\r\nThe organization has since grown from providing relief to victims of the conflict, to assisting in the general development of communities affected by the conflict.\r\n\r\nAFORD is dedicated to assisting poor and deprived communities and vulnerable groups i.e. women and children to improve their standard of living through their own initiatives and efforts. AFORD works with the communities, identifying their needs and initiating and implementing programs to address those needs. We have supported communities in six (6) districts of the Northern Region namely Tamale, Yendi, Savelugu-Nanton, Tolon-Kumbungu, Central and West Gonja, to find innovative, practical and sustainable ways to apply knowledge and improve their health as a catalyst for growth and development of their livelihoods. We have inspired and enabled marginalized and vulnerable people and communities to find their voice, to make it heard, and to take action to improve their own health and well being. \r\n\r\nVision\r\nPeaceful Northern Ghana where meaningful and sustainable livelihood is attainable by all and poverty and disease are a thing of the past.\r\n\r\nMission\r\nWork in partnership, using participatory communication approaches to improve the health and well-being and eventually the livelihoods of disadvantaged and vulnerable people in communities. \r\n\r\nObjectives\r\n- Strengthen local capacity and support initiatives that enable disadvantaged people to identify and voice their own health and development needs.\r\n- To increase awareness and disseminate information about clean drinking water, good sanitation, and good hygienic behaviour being key determinants of good health.\r\n- Promote attitudes, practices and behaviours that ensure good health and healthy society as a prerequisite for sustainable development in the communities.\r\n- Provide education to the most marginalized people in communities that will enable them demand their social, economic and political rights through lobbying and negotiation with traditional authorities and local government officials\r\n- Provide traditional leaders with capacities for service-oriented leadership and developing consensus in the community around key decisions.\r\n- Promote structures and processes at the local level for collective deliberation between traditional rulers and community members.\r\n\r\n",

We live in a world where economic means are very unequally divided. At least you can independently make sure that a part of our means ends up where you think it would be most useful!” - Anna Chojnacka.\r\n\r\n“Through the website you can choose yourself which projects you want to support, so you know exactly where your 1% is going. The website combines Web 2.0 elements with the rise of people and organisations who want to contribute to development cooperation, and is therefore really in itself a form of International Cooperation 2.0” – Bart Lacroix.\r\n\r\n1%Club is a marketplace that connects smart development projects with people, money and knowledge around the world. Based in Amsterdam, it is focused on engaging individuals and groups to commit one per cent of their time and money to international development projects.",
