"description": "The Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) is a faith-based network organisation of 21 Christian church denominations, involved in the provision of health care and training of health professionals. Established in 1967, the Association currently comprises 58 hospitals, 114 health centres and clinics, and 10 health training institutions. Membership has gone up from 25 in 1967 to 182 in 2012. The network members collectively have a staff strength of approximately 7,300. \r\n\r\nCHAG was initially founded in 1967, as a Voluntary Professional Association and subsequently registered as a Corporate Body in 1968 under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act, 1962 Act 106, the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana being the main stakeholders in the Association. The Ghana Pentecostal Council was later admitted into membership as an Associate Member. \r\n\r\nThe governance structure of CHAG comprises three distinct layers of the Council, the Board and the Secretariat. The Board is composed of nominated representatives of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Pentecostal Council. The Board is tasked to support and monitor the implementation of decisions and programmes by the secretariat that serve the interest of members. The Secretariat is responsible for managing the network and ensuring that the aims and objectives of the association and the needs of members towards contributing to the achievement of national health outcomes are met. \r\n\r\nThe uniqueness of CHAG as an organisation is the independence and autonomy of its members. This is recognised as the strength of the organisation where the diversity of its members is respected and harnessed for human centred, affordable and high quality patient care.\r\n\r\nThe Vision of CHAG is:\r\n“A healthy nation, Christ’s Healing Ministry Fulfilled”\r\n\r\nThe mission of CHAG is: \r\nTo promote the healing ministry of Christ and be a reliable partner in the Health Sector in providing the health needs of the people in Ghana in fulfilment of Christ’s mandate to go and heal the sick.\r\n \r\nThe core values of CHAG are \r\n• Christian identity and witness\r\n• Unity in Diversity\r\n• Respect for the dignity of the person\r\n• Holistic health care\r\n• Creativity and Excellence\r\n• Accountability and Transparency\r\n• Co-operation and partnership\r\n• Option for the poor and the marginalized\r\n\r\nThe objectives of CHAG are:\r\n1. To foster a closer partnership between Church-related health services and the Ministry of Health to promote health care in Ghana.\r\n2. To assist in planning and coordinating the training programmes and other medical work or services of the members of the Association.\r\n3. To assist the members of the Association with respect to the employment of staff, provision of supplies to the hospitals or other medical services maintained or supported or controlled or supervised by any member of the Association.\r\n4. To encourage and assist the members to promote the healing ministry for the benefit and the welfare of the people of Ghana.\r\n5. To implement policies set by the members and do such other things in cooperation with the members of the Association as are conducive to the attainment of the above aims and objectives of the Association or any of them and generally to act for the benefit and welfare of the people living in Ghana.",

"description": "Heritage Without Borders (HWB) was started in 2010 by three colleagues who met at University College London (UCL). We became aware of many projects, particularly outside of the Western Europe, where conservation and heritage skills were needed but people could not access or afford them. We also knew of recent graduates and heritage professionals who were keen to help but had no means of getting involved.\r\nHWB volunteers gain valuable experience in working in challenging situations, building capacity and also networking with fellow heritage professionals from different parts of the world. HWB constantly broadens its activities through working with museums, historic buildings and collections and archaeological sites internationally. Removing the barrier of ‘cost’, HWB aims to help alleviate poverty through the improvement of heritage provision.\r\nHeritage Without Borders already completed several successful projects in different regions of the world and held training in London for heritage specialists from Middle East. \r\nOur work is primarily funded through grants and donations. HWB is a registered charity in the UK. We believe that effective training and two-way interactions between heritage professionals and local communities can result in practical solutions to keep our past alive. ",

"description": "Uraia is the premier National Civic Education Organisation in Kenya. It has been in existence since year 2000 and has been working to contribute towards the progress of Kenya through the development of it's most important resource – Kenyan Citizens. Uraia began as the National Civic Education Programme (NCEP) when a formal partnership was struck between 70 Kenyan indigenous civil society organisations (CSOs) – who became implementing partners (IPs) – and a group of development partners who undertook a joint funding mechanisms of the Programme.\n\nNCEP was implemented between August 2000 and october 2010 in two phases after which Uraia converted into a Trust. The Trust successfully implemented its first strategic plan that ran from 2011 to 2015. Under this strategic plan Uraia implemented two programmes namely Uchaguzi Bora and Rooting Democrancy in Kenya through an informed citizenry. The Uchaguzi Bora programme goal was to contribute to democratic transformation processes in Kenya, leading to improved governance and nationhood in line with the promises and values of the 2010 Constitution while the Rooting Democracy programme was aimed at contributing towards promoting, securing and defending constitutionalism in Kenya for improved democracy and realization of a just and equitable society. \n\nUraia Trust is currently implementing activities under its second strategic plan running from 2016 to 2020. Uraia's vision is to is attain an informed, empowered and democratic nation. Its is mission is to provide quality civic education and empower kenyans to exercise their civic duty inorder to realize their constitutional aspirations. This will be achieved by programmes focusing on four key focus areas as follows;\n1. Entrenching constitutionalism\n2. Promoting free and fair elections\n3. Addressing the historical, political marginalization of women, youth, persons with disabilities, marginalized and minority groups\n4. Internal execellence.\n \nThe overriding theme of Uraia's work 2016 to 2020 is moving from rights and responsibilities to values and nationhood. Uraia Trust has a board of Trustees whose overall responsibility is to provide strategic direction and oversight. The secretariat which is overseen by an Executive Director comprises of twenty staff who implement Uraia programmes on a day to today basis.",

"description": "The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) is the legal custodian of Ghana’s material cultural heritage (movable and immovable heritage). The Board was established in March 1957 – on the eve of Ghana’s independence - as a result of the merger of the then interim Council of the National Museum of the Gold Coast and the Monuments and Relics Commission. The GMMB is governed by the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 387 of 1969, now known as Act 387 of 1969, which was further strengthened by the Executive Instrument (E.I.) 29 of 1973.\r\n\r\nThe history of GMMB can be traced to the establishment of an Ethnographic Museum at Achimota College in 1929. That museum was transferred to the Department of Archaeology at the University of the Gold Coast, when the university was created in 1948. \r\nIn 1952, there was the awareness of the need to conserve the past. The British Colonial government then put in place an ‘Interim Council of the National Museum of the Gold Coast’ to facilitate the creation of a national museum.\r\n\r\nThe Interim Council of the National Museum of the Gold Coast and the Monuments and Relics Commission merged, and this led to the passing of the Museum and Monuments Board Ordinance (GOLD COAST No. 20 of 1957), which established the GMMB.",

"description": "Grameen Sahara started its operation in the year 2002 with an aim to promote and facilitate Sustainable Livelihood practices. Progress for this organization during the last thirteen years can be attributed for its decisiveness at critical moments, its willingness to pass through unchartered waters and its ability to learn from mistakes. Grameen Sahara realized long before in the year 2002 that the rural areas are facing a grave threat to their livelihoods due to mounting pressure of limited financial resources, narrowing down of livelihood leveraging activities, marginalized agricultural lands and exploitation of natural resources. Hence it was deeply felt to support these un-served section of society with both financial and technical services to enhance the income requirements without compromising the health of environment. The organization therefore took an ambitious step by initiating Microfinance programme, the goal of which was to provide rural population a financial support to promote livelihood initiatives. After its initial hiccups but with assured success, Grameen Sahara started Golden Weaver’s programme. These two programmes gave Grameen Sahara confidence to carry a roadmap of supporting various sustainable livelihood leveraging activities. Some of the major ongoing projects being implemented are- “Golden Weaver’s Project”, “SRI” , “DBI” , “MKSP” , “Rights of women in conflict and fragile state” , “Peoples' institution for Livelihood security in Assam”.",

ACT implements a range of large-scale environmental and heritage projects involving community members and localised NGO’s to ensure long-term impact and benefits. One of the main focus areas of ACT is the digital preservation of cultural heritage using new technologies. ACT’s mission is to conduct, implement and facilitate pioneering heritage projects in Southern Africa in a financially accountable and sustainable manner. ACT is also a member of the IUCN.",

GSB produces good quality latrine slabs. They have recieved training in making proper latrines and were also trained in carpentry and bricklaying and making cheap gutters from zinc roof plates. GSB also produces cement blocks as a commercial product. During the project Grupo has clearly improved its capacities and they were also noted by the District Government and supported by them.",

It brings together teams from\r\nacross the Dutch internet media industry to raise money for clean\r\nwater and sanitation projects. This year the tournament on 23 August\r\n2008 will descend on the picturesque beachclub location of 'Het\r\nStranhuis', in Wijk aan Zee.\r\n\r\nEach team must donate a €250 entry fee and the event has numerous\r\nadditional sponsors. It is held in conjunction with Earth Water.\r\n\r\nThe organisers expect a record number of participants at the upcoming\r\nevent. Last year 72 companies and over 900 people participated, with\r\nmore expected for 2008.\r\n\r\nThe tournament is being organised by Govert van Eerde and is financial\r\nbacked by TAPPS. The event is produced by Live Solutions Events B.V. ",
