"description": "History.\r\nWe became interested in the very poor North-Eastern part of Bali after a chance visit. An impoverised very dry area. There are no industies and there is hardly any tourism .After sponsoring some children and seeing the very poor state of general education (no books, not enough furniture or any other teaching materials we formed two foundations. Stichting Fondsenwerving Pacung Bali in the Netherlands (finding funds) and Yayasan Gemah Ripah(executive foundation) in Bali. Also we found funds to build training places for those children who liked to work with their hands.\r\nThis resulted in a garage, a weavery, a welding- and a furniture workshop.\r\nAll of them are now self sufficient. \r\n\r\n GOALS\r\n In time our goals changed from only supporting children from poor\r\n families to get an education and helping schools.\r\n We still help poor children to get an education but we were also able to build our own Educational, Social and Cultural Centre(see DVD). \r\n\r\n ACTIVITIES.\r\na. At the moment we have an(almost) free kindergarten visited by 35\r\n children who could otherwise not go to school. \r\nb. We have an extracurricular teaching program for primary\r\n school children. Visited by 115 children. Teaching topics are:\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation.\r\n 3. Art / computer abilities / mathematics and science.\r\nc. On Sundays a similar program for 50 children from Junior and\r\n Senior Highschool. For them there are also debating groups and\r\n homework assistence. Teaching topics are\r\n 1. English conversation and grammar.\r\n 2. World Orientation and science.\r\n\r\nd. Our main interest at the moment though is the training of young\r\n teachers with the objective to propagate the modern (for Indonesia\r\n innovative) teaching methods in more places in Bali and Indonesia. \r\n\r\nSince 2010 there a close cooperation with the Ruud Stoop Culture School was established.",

"description": "The ‘Arthavida Foundation’, inaugurated on 1st of July 2011, is an organisation solely dedicated towards alleviating poverty and empowering the poor in Sri Lanka through micro-finance activities.\r\n\r\nThe roots of Arthavida can be traced to its sister organisation ‘Arthacharya Foundation’, which was established in 1992. ‘Arthacharya’, a Sanskrit term referring to ‘economic behavior’, amply defines the activities of the Foundation which seeks to uplift the economic behavior and life quality of the poor. Up till 2011, Arthacharya’s activities mainly revolved around two core areas, namely non-micro finance and micro-finance activities. The non-micro finance activities, consisting of aspects such as participatory waste management, water supply, sanitation and nutrition programmes, were based on grants received from various credit sources worldwide, with no repayment conditions attached. Facilitation for micro-finance activities were also funded from similar sources, but were received as loans which required repayment at concessionary interest rates.",

"description": "Simavi is a Netherland-based international nonprofit organization founded in 1925. Simavi’s history was initiated in Indonesia through provision of medical assistance for health institutions. In its early years, Simavi shipped medicines, essential health supplies and resources over the ocean to support the work of medical staff. Ever since then, Simavi has shifted from transporting medicines to working with an integrated approach on local, national and international levels to improve basic health standards in 9 developing countries of 2 continents, Africa and Asia. \r\n\r\nDriven by a belief that basic health is a crucial stepping-stone for building a better existence and breaking the cycle of poverty, Simavi aims to have a world in which basic health is accessible to all. To be more focused, Simavi works on two areas which are vital for people: (1) Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH), and (2) Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). We view that everyone has the right to enjoy basic health conditions, including clean water and adequate sanitation; awareness on hygiene; comprehensive reproductive education; and reproductive health care. \r\n\r\nWASH and SRHR related health problems cannot be solved by individuals or groups working alone; rather, they require sustainable long-term solutions that allow systems to be changed and stakeholders to be in regular communication with each other. Simavi’s Theory of Change is designed to ensure this will happen by involving everyone, from community, private sector to governmental level, to work together towards the same goal: the structural improvement of basic health. "description": "Aspire informs and equips marginalised women with the knowledge, skills, esteem and friendship to become self-sufficient and empowered to change their own lives, thereby improving their families’ standard of living and encouraging the foundations for a viable and peaceful society. By working together, the women of Aspire make their own choices and take control of their future. Aspire's mission is built on the belief that the promotion of human dignity and women’s rights will lead to positive sustainable community development and strong and lasting grassroots reconciliation. Every year Aspire adopts 100 women in Kigali into its training program. They are divided into working groups of 25-30 and through participation in the twelve month curriculum, which includes rights based education in basic literacy, healthcare and business and skills training and counselling services, the beneficiaries of this programme will be able to read and write, be more aware of their rights and empowered to exercise them, have collected a range of practical skills and built a network of community friendship support.\r\n\r\nThe women are encouraged to pass these skills to their children and communities – reinforcing these vital lessons to a wider audience. This in itself is self-sustaining and promotes the creation of successful and peaceful communities. Peace Ruzage founded the Aspire programme in 2007, after she observed idle and frustrated groups of women in her neighbourhood arguing amongst themselves. Peace spent time talking with her neighbours and discovered the women were bored and marginalised from society, lacking hope for their own and their children’s futures. Most of the women were illiterate, uneducated, unskilled widows and single mothers with many children.\r\n\r\nDue to disempowerment, impoverishment, lack of awareness of their rights, teamed with the inability to express themselves, they had little chance of changing their circumstances. Poverty had forced some of the women into prostitution and illegal trading, many were suffering from HIV/AIDs, and were victims of domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, and violence during the war and Genocide. Peace assumed the traditional role of ‘wise aunty’, and offered her veranda as a safe, open area where the women and their children could spend time and socialise. It became a forum for mediation between antagonists. She kick-started an important process, encouraging the women to talk to one another, work, and solve problems together.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, the legacy of Rwanda’s past has meant that some ethnic tension still exists in parts of the community. This tension can impede positive, local development and reconciliation. Rooted in her commitment to human dignity, equality and a peaceful future, Peace has successfully brought together women - regardless of their background - to be educated, trained, work and to socialise, thereby promoting cooperation, friendship and reconciliation. The Aspire women have formed a strong network of friendship and support, they have started sustainable economic activities, and they are increasingly aware of their rights and empowered as a result- all of which sprung from simple dialogue and cooperation.\r\n\r\nNetwork for Africa is advocating for, and financially supporting Aspire so that it can sustain and develop its vital programme empowering vulnerable women of Kigali.",

"description": "Established in 1989, ADEMO was the first DPO in Mozambique with around 80,000 members spread throughout the country’s 11 provinces. But ADEMO suffers – as do so many developing world DPOs – from scarce resources, which is why DDP partnered ADEMO in the Disability and Development Programme (DADP), in which the central element was to develop ADEMO’s capacity to represent disabled people throughout Mozambique.\n\nRecognised as the ‘voice’ of disabled people in Mozambique, ADEMO have made links with a range of government ministries, such as Health, Women and Social Affairs, Labour and Education, which consult ADEMO on provisions for disabled people when drafting new policies.\n\nDDP and ADEMO continue to work together to develop sustainable programmes such as income generation at the provincial level and to address the issue of the exclusion of disabled people from HIV/AIDS policies and programmes in Mozambique, where HIV prevalence is high.\n\nAt the same time, ADEMO and DDP know that the most effective means of securing the inclusion of disabled people as full and equal citizens will be through advocacy (lobbying and campaigning) and so the programmes we run together will continue to include training and resources to strengthen ADEMO’s skills in this area.",

Well it’s a simple formula of bringing creatives (a.k.a the producers) and the distribution chains (a.k.a the value chains) together.\nProducers + Distributors = CG Market Access\nOur journey continues as we do our part to grow the creative economy!",

"description": "The Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) founded in 1995 is a cornerstone of Afghanistan’s fledging women’s movement, serving as a well-established network for the growing number of women’s organizations and individual members operating in the country. AWN has had a strong presence in several Afghan provinces through AWN’s secretariat in Kabul, Herat, Jalalabad and other provinces through its members. AWN fulfills the role of a network of organizations, as well as undertaking its own Advocacy function, addressing issues such as gender-based violence, youth empowerment and girl’s education.",
