"description": "Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) is an NGO registered at the District Administration Office, Jumla under the Society Registration Act, 1978, and is affiliated to the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu. It has been in operation in Karnali Zone since 1999 with its central office located in Jumla district with offices in four other districts viz. Kalikot, Humla, Mugu and Dolpa, a Program Support Office at Nepalgunj and a Coordination Office in Kathmandu. \r\n\r\nKarnali Zone is endowed with abundant natural resources like flora, fauna, water, agriculture, horticulture, tourism, mines, minerals, lakes etc. But, unfortunately, these have not been tapped to the least for the benefits of the people for their livelihood improvement due to continued state neglect such as lack of appropriate development policies and commitment for Karnali Zone. As a result, the people of Karnali Zone continued to remain very poor deprived of adequate basic facilities like health, education, food, employment, markets, communication etc. since time immemorial and falls at the bottom of Human Development Index. More so, the caste and gender discrimination in Karnali Zone is comparatively high resulting in lack of access of women, Dalits and marginalized people to resources, opportunities and decision making processes from social, economical and political perspectives. To add more to the woes, the situation in Karnali Zone was further aggravated due to the Maoist movement which culminated into a fierce armed clash with the State resulting in serious human rights violation with a death toll of nearly 700 people, abduction and disappearance of more than 300, torture and detention of more than 800 and displacement of more than 7000 people.",

In this way a fundamental contribution is given to the development of structural provisions for childsren with a seemingly hopeless future.\r\n\r\nTwo kilometers from Bodhgaya, where according to the tradition The Buddha reached enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in hte world-famous Mahabodhi temple, a children village was built with associated infrastructure. In accordance with the local culture the village for children is called \"Lord Buddha Home for Children\". This complex facilitates in a shelter for hundred children, girls as well boys, in small family houses for 10 children each. The children are raised by their \"own\" mother, who gives them the loved and respect they deserve. A health centre wich is also available for the local community, a pray- annex recreation building and staff rooms are part of the village. A primary school will soon get under construction. Since this year there is also a vocational training centre, wich is also available for the children and youth from the local community.\r\nThe buildings are surrounded by a play yard, sportfields, a kitchen garden and soon here will be a small farm for hte kids.\r\n\r\nBecause of the numbers and the problems of the outcast children in Bodhgaya region, it's impossible to house all the outcast children in the village. To prevent theze children from derailing, The \"Lord Buddha Home for Children\" provides Community Empowerment programs about health care, education and employment for these children and their families. In this context healthcare is the foundation for a healthy society. When people are healthy, it becomes easier for them to follow an education learn a trade ans work towards a better life. Therefore we have setting up Multi Activity Centres (MA|C's), run by local people, where people can learn how to control their helath, the helath of their family and how to improve the local living conditions.\r\nThese extensions to the program are seen as innovative elements in finding a solution for the current problems facing the orphans and outcast children in and around Bodhgaya. they add enormous value to the program.\r\n\r\nThe Stichting Kinderhulp Bodhgaya/Child Welfare Bodhgaya Foundation is cooperating the programs with the NGO Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra in Hazaribag, India. This organization is raised in 1971 and well known in India and also international.",

"description": "The Kenya Water and Sanitation Network (KEWASNET) was founded in August 2007 to enable civil society organizations involved in the Water and Sanitation Sector (WSS) to work in a coordinated manner.\r\n\r\nThe overall purpose of the Network is to ensure that Kenyans have access to affordable and safe water and sanitation services in a sustainable context. The membership is drawn from civil society organizations that are working to improve water resource management and increase efficiency in service delivery in water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nBroadly, KEWASNET provides a linkage between service providers and consumers by facilitating partnerships between policy makers and stakeholders and encouraging equitable participation by all parties in governance and decision-making mechanisms. \r\nOrganizational identity \r\nKEWASNET is registered as a non-governmental voluntary, non-partisan and non-profit trust under the Kenyan Trustees Act. Nationwide recruitment of member civil society organizations is ongoing so as to continuously increase citizen participation in the management of Kenya’s water and sanitation services. \r\n\r\nThe participation of civil society organizations in all-important decision-making about management of water resources is legitimized in the Water Act 2002. In keeping with the main principles outlined in the Water Act2002, KEWASNET seeks broader participation in the monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation and in all areas related to the management of water resources and services. \r\n\r\nThis is to ensure that the development of water resources and access to water services is socially acceptable to different citizen groups, especially marginalized communities. A related aim is to ensure that the supply of water to the poor is achieved through government and its agencies, at acceptable levels, and in compliance with the provisions of the Water Act 2002.",

"description": "Kitale Community Advancement Programme (KAP) is a community education and counselling programme working in Trans Nzoia County/Kenya, which aims to mitigate the impact of societal breakdown especially violence, trauma, addictions, HIV/AIDS risky behaviours and environmental degradation. Its activities focus on capacity-building voluntary community resource persons, providing a variety of (group) counselling- and psycho-education services whilst also planning to provide trainings for a fee.\r\n\r\nOriginally started and run by the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) in 1993 as ‘Kitale AIDS Programme’, in December 2009 the programme was registered as a national Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) separate from the Catholic Church. Whilst implementing its HIV preventive activities the urgent need to address major underlying and related societal problems became apparent. \r\nThis lead to efforts towards re-branding. In April 2017 KAP is finalizing its process for name change with relevant Kenyan Authorities: from ‘Kitale AIDS Programme (KAP)’ to ‘Kitale Community Advancement Programme (KAP)’.\r\n\r\nKAP’s main objective is “To facilitate, promote and create innovative and sustainable educational and counselling approaches to mitigate the impact of societal breakdown, especially violence, abuse, trauma, addictions, HIV/AIDS and related problems and environmental degradation”.\r\nIts main areas of interest are (A) Trauma Management, Prevention and Peace, (B ) Addiction Prevention, Community-Based Treatment & Referral, (C) HIV/AIDS Behaviour Interventions and (D) Comprehensive Recovery for Extra Vulnerable Youths. Care for the environment is integrated in all components.\r\nKAP sees societal cohesion, community ownership, personal responsibility, true commitment and therefore true voluntarism as vital prerequisites for healing and defeating violence, trauma, addiction, HIV and restoring environmental damage. KAP’s work is based on a strong and practical spirituality with an ecumenical and interfaith character.\r\n\r\nBetween 2002 - 2016 KAP trained and followed-up 3,885 volunteers with 70% still active 8 months after training with at least 1 activity per week. KAP has 14 staffs and 25 community trainers. \r\n\r\nKAP’s activities show to impact people deeply and lead to sincere efforts towards healing, peace and addiction-free and/or safe(r) behaviours. These include reduction of participants’ risky, violent or disruptive relationships and addictions, improved communication with partners and others, addressing of different sorts of stigma, ethnic imbalance and reconciliation between warring parties, and also increase in Voluntary HIV Counseling and Testing, -treatment and addressing of (the many) STIs, use of medical (HIV) treatment and preventive tools. Participants say that they are much helped by KAP’s psychological counseling sessions. Usually these concern extremely difficult domestic situations of neglect, loneliness, violence, (gang) rapes, including of young children, and broken families and relationships. ",

"description": "Every day 4.500 children die as a result due to a shortage of clean drinking water. This while at the same time in other parts of the world clean drinking water is used to do the dishes and to flush the toilet. More than a billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and as a result of this 3,5 million people worldwide die every year. Jointhepipe.org, an internationally oriented foundation, wants to do something about this! Our goal is to build the longest water pipe in the world. Long enough to bring clean and safe drinking water to all of those people who currently have no drinking water.\r\nThe construction of water projects in Third World countries is being financed through the sale of our unique, hip and sustainable Jointhepipe.org water carafes and water bottles. Bottled water that is being imported from European countries is responsible for a great deal of CO2 emissions and is, on top of that, 400 to 3000 times more expensive than tap water. And that while The Netherlands have the best drinking water in Europe, that is what tests performed by the European Commission have shown. \r\nJointhepipe.org wants to promote the most sustainable water there is: tap water. We therefore designed a series of carafes and water bottles that can be filled with tap water. This way it is no longer necessary to purchase those polluting plastic throw-away bottles in the future. The profit of every carafe or bottle sold is being donated to one of our many water projects in Third World countries. So, drink only tap water from now on. Not only is it good for the environment and your wallet, but you can help us with our dream to bring safe drinking water to all those currently without. www.jointhepipe.org\r\n",

"description": "The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) is advancing trade to improve the economic situation and livelihoods of people across the Islamic world. As an autonomous entity within the Islamic Development Bank Group, the ITFC was formed to consolidate the trade finance business that was formerly undertaken by various windows within the IDB Group. The consolidation of the bank’s trade finance activities under a single umbrella increases the efficiency of service delivery by enabling rapid response to customer needs in a market-driven business environment.\r\n \r\nAs a leader in Shari’ah-compliant trade finance, we deploy our expertise and funds to businesses and governments in member countries of the OIC. Our primary focus is encouraging intra-trade among member countries, and we are active in developing and diversifying Islamic finance solutions to further trade. As an international financial service organization, we have a rigorous commitment to work with our clients in proactive, accountable and efficient ways.\r\n \r\nAs a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, we have unique access to governments and work as a facilitator to mobilize private and public resources to achieve a measurable impact on trade and development. The ITFC helps businesses in Islamic countries gain better access to trade finance and provides them with the necessary education and training to compete successfully in the global marketplace. Our efforts are geared to building stronger trade relations between member countries and giving individuals opportunities to grow and prosper.\r\n \r\nRespect for our Islamic heritage is at the heart of everything we do. We have a clear vision: to share and apply our intra trade skills – linking together people, partnerships and possibilities to make strong connections that empower, expand and enrich economies, communities and individuals. We are robust and responsible at our core but balance this with an energy and drive – seeking out new opportunities that enable the Islamic world to prosper.\r\n \r\nThe four cornerstones of our business – our customers, business partners, member countries and our products and services – provide a solid foundation on which we are building a promising and exciting future. Operating to world-class standards, the ITFC promotes the IDB Groups developmental objectives through its two main pillars, Trade Finance and Trade Promotion, to fulfill its brand promise of 'Advancing Trade & Improving Lives'.",

It is currently being implemented in Mozambique and Uganda with the support of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and University College London's Centre for International Health and Development. The aim of the project is to increase coverage of integrated community case management (ICCM), which provides community based-care for diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria. This is achieved through training community based agents (CBAs) to diagnose and treat these three main childhood illnesses. ",

"description": "We are the peak international organisation representing the rights and interests of people who use drugs. Our core constituency is that section of the illicit drug using community who face the greatest health risks and the most serious human rights abuses, namely injecting drug users and those on opioid substitution programmes.\r\n\r\nWe advocate for an end of global prohibition in the long term, and its replacement with a system of legalised regulation, and immediately for human rights compliant, evidence based drug policies, that will reduce, and hopefully eliminate, stigma, discrimination, and prejudice against people who use drugs. We oppose the criminalisation of people simply on the basis of what drugs they choose to use, and fight to document, expose and stop the human rights abuses that are carried out against the drug using community, whether in the name of drug control, treatment, or security. A special focus of our advocacy is on the impact of repressive legal environment on the spread of HIV amongst the injecting community. We advocate for the revocation of laws that criminalise drug use, and argue for supportive legal environments, as well as for the provision of both needle and syringe exchange, and opioid substitution programmes. We argue that this requires the immediate decriminalisation of people who use drugs.\r\n\r\nUltimately, these objectives can only be achieved by the abolition of the current, unjust, moralising system of global prohibition.",
