"description": "WaterAid Mali works with a number of local partner organisations and NGOs.\r\n\r\nWaterAid started pilot projects in Mali in 2001 with the aim of increasing low-income communities' access to water, sanitation and hygiene. Since its establishment, WaterAid Mali has been working with a local NGO called Jigi in poor areas of the capital city Bamako, in areas including Nafadji Doumanzana where there was a complete lack of safe drinking water points for a population of approximately 6000.\r\nWaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe domestic water and effective sanitation.\r\n\r\nWaterAid's core belief is that safe water and sanitation are basic human rights. Everyone in the world should have access to them.\r\n\r\nWe believe that access to safe water and sanitation underpins health, education and livelihoods, and forms the first, essential step in overcoming poverty.\r\n\r\nWaterAid's work in Mali and elsewhere is powered by collaboration. The engagement of all partners, donors, staff, volunteers and trustees underpins our success in realising our shared vision of a world in which everyone has access to safe water and effective sanitation.",

"description": "UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. We have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. That makes us unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young.\r\n\r\nWe believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.\r\n\r\nWe advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.\r\n\r\nWe promote girls’ education – ensuring that they complete primary education as a minimum – because it benefits all children, both girls and boys. Girls who are educated grow up to become better thinkers, better citizens, and better parents to their own children.\r\n\r\nWe act so that all children are immunized against common childhood diseases, and are well nourished, because it is wrong for a child to suffer or die from a preventable illness.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"For Every Child\" is a UNICEF video which highlights the importance of realizing children's rights as foreseen in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.\r\nWe work to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among young people because it is right to keep them from harm and enable them to protect others. We help children and families affected by HIV/AIDS to live their lives with dignity.\r\n\r\nWe involve everyone in creating protective environments for children. We are present to relieve suffering during emergencies, and wherever children are threatened, because no child should be exposed to violence, abuse or exploitation.\r\n\r\nUNICEF upholds the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We work to assure equality for those who are discriminated against, girls and women in particular. We work for the Millennium Development Goals and for the progress promised in the United Nations Charter. We strive for peace and security. We work to hold everyone accountable to the promises made for children.\r\n\r\nWe are part of the Global Movement for Children – a broad coalition dedicated to improving the life of every child. Through this movement, and events such as the United Nations Special Session on Children, we encourage young people to speak out and participate in the decisions that affect their lives. \r\n\r\nWe are active in more than 190 countries and territories through country programmes and National Committees. We are UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund.",

Twaweza believes that lasting change requires bottom-up action. We seek to foster conditions and expand opportunities through which millions of people can get information and make change happen in their own communities directly and by holding government to account.\r\n\r\nTwaweza works to provide practical information to everyone, to foster quality independent media and citizen monitoring services. By addressing these issues through its partner organizations, Twaweza works to foster what it calls an 'ecosystem of change,' through building on, as well as triggering, the actions of citizens to make a difference. Twaweza has three core areas: brokering partnerships, Uwazi, and learning and communication.",

The main goal of the Department of archaeology is the study, interpretation and protection of Jordan’s cultural heritage. Students who study archaeology develop strong leadership skills as a result of the extensive fieldwork experience and training opportunities offered in this programme. The archaeology programme is truly multidisciplinary covering in addition to archaeology theories and methods areas like cultural resources management, modern scientific techniques in archaeology, conservation and museum studies.",

"description": "Training for the Water Sector started in 1960 with a unit in the Hydraulic Department of Public Works to train water supply operators. In 1970, the unit was upgraded to a training section under the same Department. When the Water Department was transformed to a fully-fledged Ministry of Water Development in 1974, the training section became the Water Development Staff Training School. In 1985, the Institute became a national water training institution and was henceforth referred to as Kenya Water Institute (KEWI). An Act of Parliament to establish the Kenya Water Institute was enacted by Parliament in 2001 and assented to by the President on 31st December 2001. According to the KEWI ACT (No.11 of 2001) the Institute is a semi-autonomous corporate body serving the entire water sector in Kenya. The Applied Water Department was merged by training to form the new KEWI in 2003.",

"description": "50% of the irrigated area is currently affected by salinization while 19% is threatened by soil erosion. Salinization reduces cotton yields by 20-30% on slightly salinized lands, 40-60% on moderately salinized lands, and 80% or more on heavily salinized lands. Agriculture faces declining productivity as high water tables, inappropriate irrigation and under-maintained drainage systems increase salinization and water logging and the fertility of arable land declines. This reduction in the resource base is estimated to cost about $1 billion annually in foregone economic output. 30,000 Ha are being lost to salinity build up each year.\r\nRecognizing the severity of the land degradation scenario, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan issued a decree on October 30, 2007, No. УП-3932 \"On efficient strengthening of land reclamation system”. This Decree established the National Irrigated Land Reclamation Fund, and its executing agency, the Fund Management Department, under the Ministry of Finance. The decree assigns management responsibility for the Fund to the Prime Minister.\r\nThe Fund is responsible for financing construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of interregional and inter-farm open collectors, vertical drainage, horizontal drainage, pump stations, and monitoring stations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MAWR) is responsible for repair and maintenance of on farm drainage systems. The Presidential Decree requires five year programs to be developed that identify financing priorities.",
