"description": "Egerton University is the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya. It was founded as a Farm School in 1939 by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, a British national who settled in Kenya in the 1920s. In 1950, the School was upgraded to an Agricultural College offering diploma programmes. The Egerton Agricultural College Ordinance was enacted in 1955. In 1979, the Government of Kenya and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded a major expansion of the institution. In 1986, Egerton Agricultural College was gazetted as a constituent college of the University of Nairobi. The following year, 1987, marked the establishment of Egerton University through an Act of Parliament.\r\n\r\nEgerton University has three (3) Campuses and one Campus College. The main Campus is based at Njoro and houses the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and Social Sciences, Education and Community Studies, Engineering and Technology, Environment and Resources Development, Science and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. "description": "GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poorest of the poor. They are a non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political organisation.\r\n\r\nGOAL began implementing an emergency response programme in Kenya in 1983 to response to an influx of refugees from, what is now, South Sudan and to provide drought assistance in the Horn of Africa.\r\n\r\nThirty years later, GOAL Kenya is actively continuing our work to improve the lives of the most vulnerable.\r\n\r\nCurrently, the GOAL Kenya programme has offices in two locations, Nairobi and Marsabit.\r\n\r\nThe Nairobi programme comprises of integrated projects that target extremely vulnerable children, young people and marginalised populations living in Nairobi’s slums. \r\n\r\nGOAL’s programmes focus on children’s empowerment and protection (CEP), health, HIV and AIDS, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sectors.\r\n\r\nGOAL’s programme in Marsabit responds to the drought crisis that regularly affects communities living in northern Kenya’s arid lands. This is accomplished by increasing access to clean water and sanitation facilities and encouraging changes in hygienic behaviour. \r\n\r\nIssues of child protection, gender, environment, HIV and AIDS and livelihoods are also integrated into GOAL’s programmes in Kenya. The aim is to empower individuals and communities to access their rights, fulfil their potential and initiate real and sustainable change.\r\n\r\nGOAL also delivers emergency preparedness and response in Kenya. In recent years, we responded to the post-election violence of 2007 / 2008 by building houses for displaced families in the Nakuru valley. We also supported Somali refugees in Dadaab camp, north-western Kenya, by providing emergency shelter and constructing sanitation facilities. ",

We starten levensreddende activiteiten en bieden onderdak, voedsel, schoon drinkwater en medische voorzieningen. Doel: zoveel mogelijk levens redden. We helpen direct.

"description": "Most parts of Busia County fall within the Lake Victoria Basin. The altitude is undulating and rises from about 1,130m above sea level at the shores of Lake Victoria to a maximum of about 1,500m in the Samia and North Teso Hills. The central part of the county, especially Butula and Nambale Sub-counties, are occupied by a peneplains marked by low flat divides of approximately uniform height, often capped by lateritic and a shallowly incised swampy drainage system.\r\n\r\nThe Samia Hills represent the basement complex and consist of acid and sub-acid lavas, tuffs, and agglomerates, banded quartzite and iron stones. The Kavirondo series rocks are developed around Busia, Nambale and Butula while the granites dominate the northern parts of county.\r\n\r\nThe northern part of the central region features granitic out crops, which is essentially part of the peneplains and is characterized by the presence of large granitic hills and tor such as Amukura and Chelelemuk.\r\n\r\nThe southern part is covered by a range of hills comprising the Samia and Funyula Hills which run from the north east to the south west culminating at Port Victoria; forming a very conspicuous topographic feature.\r\n\r\nThe southernmost part of the county is covered by the Yala Swamp which is a down warped area associated with the formation of Lake Victoria. In this regard, we are both an experienced bank and a development institution with financing expertise, an expert knowledge of development policy and many years of national and international experience. On behalf of the German Federal Government, and primarily the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), we finance and support programmes and projects that mainly involve public sector players in developing countries and emerging economies – from their conception and execution to monitoring their success. Our goal is to help our partner countries fight poverty, maintain peace, protect both the environment and the climate and shape globalisation in an appropriate way.",
