The OSCE has its roots in the 1973 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (an East-West forum).\r\n\r\nThe OSCE’s mandate in Bosnia and Herzegovina was established under the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), drawn up in Dayton in late 1995 and signed in Paris in December 1995 to end close to four years of conflict. Since then, BiH has faced the daunting task of rebuilding itself as a multi-ethnic, democratic society.\r\nThe OSCE is one of the key agencies responsible for helping BiH make this transition and began its work in December 1995.",

"description": "The organisation:\r\nVia local partners Connect International (CI) supports local communities to develop themselves. To reach this, innovative information systems and technologies are used. These so called Smart tecs are simple and affordable water- and sanitation solutions that in general can be produced locally.\r\nThe keyword is reparability, users are able to the maintenance themselves and spareparts are affordable and available. A Smart tec example is the rope pump, an innovative low cost handpump now used by 3 million people. Others examples are Rota sludge and Baptist well drilling, Tube groundwater recharge, Easy drip irrigation, Siphon water filters and VIP latrines.\r\n\r\nThe partnership: \r\nConnect International supports Akvo with examples of good practices but also informs on failures, this because experiences indicate, “Simple is not easy”. A successful introduction of a simple technology requires, professional guidance. Learning from the past and combining the experiences of the Akvo partners, cost of water and sanitation can be reduced and sustainability increased.",

"description": "The operations of Practical Action's regional office in Nairobi are consolidated across four geographical clusters spread across the northern, central, and southwest parts of Kenya. These are: Somali and Karamoja clusters in the north, the Lake Victoria cluster in the south west of the country and the Nairobi-Nakuru cluster in central Kenya.\r\n\r\nThe work carried out by Practical Action regional office in Kenya is centred on three themes:\r\n\r\nReducing vulnerability\r\nTo strengthen the ability of poor women and men to use technology to cope with threats to their livelihoods from natural disasters, environmental degradation and civil conflict.\r\n\r\nMaking markets work for poor people\r\nTo enable poor women and men to use technologies effectively in systems of production, processing and marketing to build secure livelihoods.\r\n\r\nImproving access to infrastructure services\r\nTo improve the access of poor women and men to locally managed infrastructure services.\r\nThe three areas of work are supervised and guided by three programme team leaders. The programme implementation team consists of project managers who are responsible for managing the different projects that come under each broad theme area.\r\n\r\nIn addition, there is also a Quality Assurance and Fundraising Unit, which incorporates: fundraising, communications and the resource centre. The Unit not only provides support to the organization by giving inputs to evaluation and monitoring of projects and by liaising with donors and funding organizations but also facilitates information sharing of the project experiences, profile raising and financial support for the organisation. It aims to strengthen Practical Action-EA's presence as a lead authority in poverty alleviation through the use of appropriate technologies and processes within the East Africa region. The Eastern Africa office is managed by the Eastern Africa Regional Director, Grace Mukasa.",

"description": "The Open Institute was established in September 2006 by four founding members who are committed to and interested in contributing to the development of a democratic and just society by facilitating and promoting information, communication and knowledge sharing in society through all means and tools. The Open Institute is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization that was officially registered at the Ministry of Interior on December 15, 2006.\r\n\r\nWe recognize that citizen participation in political and social movements, with freedom of expression and opinion and freedom to access to information, are fundamental for a democratic and just society. For this reason, the Open Institute was set up with the purpose to provide information, tools, knowledge and to promote dialogue in society. The organization's key strategies are to provide computers programs in the Khmer language, to build capacity by providing computer and e-learning know-how trainings throughout the country, to provide electronic channels for information sharing and discussion, and to organize face to face meetings to discuss social concerns, including topics related to gender equity.",

So it’s really easy to understand where your money goes. And it’s really easy to make a difference. You don’t even need to change your habits, just the products in your shopping basket.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe’re a registered UK charity, working with communities in Africa to address some of the most pressing humanitarian issues of the day, including clean drinking water, HIV, nutrition and sanitation.\r\n\r\nWe aim to focus our efforts where it’s needed most, funding like-for-like projects through the sale of One products and services.",

"description": "The NSWP was established as an informal alliance in 1990 by a group of sex worker rights activists working within sex work projects around the world. Over the years, NSWP has conducted activities in partnership with other organisations, and the principle of the participation of sex workers in policy and programme development has been accepted at many levels. Despite lacking resources and recognition, the NSWP has influenced policy and built leadership among sex workers and facilitated the development of regional and national networks of sex workers and sex work projects. Significantly, NSWP participation in the global response to HIV/AIDS was largely responsible for the term 'sex worker' replacing 'prostitute'. More than mere political correctness, this shift in language had the important effect of moving global understandings of sex work toward a labour framework which signposts solutions to many of the problems faced by sex workers. It also questions the stigma of sex work and represents greater recognition of sex workers as rights bearers, with the capacity to make a difference. As a result of NSWP advocacy, female, male and transgender sex workers have presented the case for protection of their human rights at international forums such as international and regional conferences on AIDS, the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995, UNGASS, the UNAIDS Programme Co-ordinating Board and the Global Fund consultations. The NSWP successfully lobbied for wording of the UN convention against trafficking in persons (the Palermo Protocol) to ensure that trafficking is defined as including force or coercion. NSWP, along with its regional networks, was also successful in urging UNAIDS to reconsider its 2007 policy guidelines on HIV and sex work.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the NSWP, through its member organisations, published Making Sex Work Safe and a regular journal (Research for Sex Work); maintains global and regional listservs; and manages a website containing some of the most influential and important work on HIV and sex work. The NSWP’s work has been widely acknowledged and NSWP regional networks and members have received various awards.\r\n\r\nFollowing an organisational review completed in 2007, which recommended the NSWP formalise its membership structure, becoming a network of organisations (rather than individuals) and establishing a secretariat in the global north, the Global Network of Sex Work Projects (NSWP) registered as a not-for-profit private company limited by guarantee, with its registered office in Scotland, in October 2008.\r\n\r\nThe Global Network of Sex Work Projects exists to uphold the voice of sex workers globally and connect regional networks advocating for the rights of female, male and transgender sex workers. It advocates for rights based health and social services, freedom from abuse and discrimination, and self determination for sex workers. \r\n\r\nNSWP members are united by common core beliefs and values and are committed to: \r\n- Acceptance of sex work as work\r\n- Opposition to all forms of criminalisation of sex work (including sex workers, clients, management and others related to sex workers)\r\n- Support for self-organisation and self-determination of sex workers\r\n\r\nNSWP is led by sex workers; member organisations are therefore expected to be sex worker-led and to ensure the meaningful participation of sex workers in every level of their organisation. Regions are expected to ensure the voices of female, male and transgender sex workers are heard within their region as well as giving voice to sex workers living with HIV and those using drugs. \r\n\r\nAdditionally all members must be committed to challenging stigma and discrimination, to defending human rights, to challenging policies and practices that negatively affect the lives and health of sex workers, and to promoting rights based services and policies. \r\n \r\nThe NSWP aims are to:\r\n- provide practical information and opportunities for information sharing among organisations and projects which provide services to men, women, and transsexuals who work in the sex industry.\r\n- raise awareness of the health and welfare needs of sex workers. \r\n- advocate at regional and global level for policies and action, which further the human rights of sex workers. These rights include the right to health and a safe working environment free from abuse, violence, and discrimination. \r\n- develop and maintain links between service providers, sex worker organisations and relevant international institutions and agencies. \r\n- facilitate opportunities for the voices of sex workers to be heard in relevant international forums. \r\n\r\nThe NSWP conducts a mix of pro-active and re-active policy advocacy to support human rights and evidence based approaches to female, male and transgendered sex workers and strengthening sex worker communities. The work is arranged around: \r\na) Communications and advocacy. Information relevant to sex workers human rights and health is not sufficiently accessible, particularly for those who do not read English. The NSWP summarises, translates and distributes relevant information to it members and beyond. This is particularly important for places where there are no organised sex workers groups or rights based sex work programmes. Five languages have currently been prioritised - Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. NSWP advocacy is supported by policy analysis, research and consultation with members. \r\nb) Building Capacity and Solidarity - Training and skills building for and among sex worker organisations and leaders is achieved by developing and providing tools, training, space and support on issues such as human rights, health interventions, law and policy, ethics and technologies.",

This is to enable the project adequately address the perennial water crisis experienced in most rural communities in Northern Ghana which led to the spread of the guineaworm disease which became endemic in some Districts. \r\n\r\nThe Project focuses on education of beneficiaries on the essence of good Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices to ensure improvement in the health and livelihoods of the people. Not only to improve school attendance by pupils in these communities, but to enhance the economic activity of their parents for improved educational support from the families.\r\n\r\nA lot of emphasis is also placed on the training of local Artisans (community people) in the construction and maintenance of rainwater harvesting tanks to ensure sustainability and spread of the technology. \r\n\r\nThe coverage area of the project is currently within communities in the Northern Region of Ghana. This is mainly because, due to their guinea worm endemic nature in the past, they were prioritized for the intervention to make good drinking water available to the people to check the spread of the disease. \r\nOur vision is to expand our services to the other regions with perenniel water problems in future. \r\n\r\nPresby Water Project joined the Ghana WASH Alliance in 2009 in order to leverage additional funding and technical assistance to meet this dream.\r\n\r\nOver the past 5 years, a total of 24 institutional and 200 household tanks have been constructed by the project in 7 districts of the Northern Region.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, 150 tanks have been constructed in collaboration with local partners such as Christian Children's Fund in Canada (CCFC), Technoserve and NewEnergy among others. \r\n\r\nThe significance of the introduction and promotion of rainwater harvesting in these communities cannot be over emphasised because of the visible impact it has made in the eradication of the disease from the area. \r\n",
