"description": "The Southwest coastal region of Bangladesh is rich in natural resources. The human civilization and culture of this region developed depending on those natural resources. But unfortunately, disasters caused by human interventions and natural calamities have caused severe damages to the environment, ecology, and biodiversity of the region. Thus human lives and livelihoods have become vulnerable.\r\nIt was in such a situation that in 1999 a group of young energetic and socially committed enthusiasts got together and formed ‘AOSED-An Organization for Socio-Economic Development’ for conserving environment, ecology and biodiversity and ensuring people's right of access to natural resource towards alleviation of poverty.\r\n\r\nMission \r\nConserve environment, ecology and biodiversity. Uphold people's rights of access to common and natural resources towards alleviation of poverty, upholding human rights and good governance.\r\n\r\nVision\r\nDevelop a just, prosperous and environment-friendly Society in which there will be no discrimination whatsoever.",

SEPDA is an umbrella to 22 Nationality development associations (NDAs) operating based at zonal and especial woreda levels of SNNPR and 4 CBOs working in the areas of HIV/AIDS and malaria prevention. SEPDA implements its activities using zonal and woreda level based member development associations throughout the region as instruments for ensuring participation and mobilization of grassroots communities, CBOs and relevant government bodies. Community participation and mobilization of local resources is effected through these structures. SEPDA works in close partnership with government bodies at all levels, which lays solid foundation for the success and sustainability of its development programs/projects. Over the past years SEPDA constructed and furnished a.o. schools and health posts.",

"description": "The Source Connection is a volunteer organisation founded in 2001. The goal is to support local initiatives in 3rd world countries with knowledge, skills and experience. The way the organisation works is that the ownership of the project is as much as possible in the hands of the local population. Most of all Source Connection wants to facilitate the initiatives of those who wants to improve the quality of life for themselves and for their community. As much as possible we want to stay close to \"the source\", that means that we want to involve all knowledge, skills, materials, energy etc that is already there and the we only want to \"add value\" when needed. Most of the time our activities are focused on projects like starting up new small businesses or community based tourism. In some cases we also faciltate and support projects for clean drinking water, sanitation and irrigation/farming, when lack of those conditions are a barrier for the plans of the local population.",

There also remains a great deal to be discovered about early seafarers' contacts with Australia, from Macassar traders and the explorers from Spain, The Netherlands, Britain, France and other nations, through to eventual colonisation with the arrival of the first fleet in 1788. The reefs and shoals that surround our coastline are literally dotted with wrecks, more than some 6,000 by some counts, and yet only a small percentage of these have ever been found, identified, researched and properly documented.",

"description": "The Sierra Leone Youth Initiative (SLYI) is committed in connecting Sierra Leonean diaporas and their Netherlands counterparts closely towards sharing ideas, views, experiences and pooling their resources together to undertake initiatives geared towards promoting an open, better and quality education for all Sierra Leonean childeren and youth after the 10 years of civil war in the country.\r\n\r\nMain Aim:\r\nThe main aim of our foundation is to support and promote the educational development of children and youths of Sierra Leone. This is made possible through the mobilization of financial and non-financial aid for specified projects supported by the foundation in Sierra Leone.\r\n\r\nVision:\r\nOur vision is to create a pedagogical environment that will supports and stimulate the educational development of Sierra Leonean children and youths. Children and youths would have the opportunity to develop their individual capabilities, learn the cultural values of being a responsible, and independent citizen and to actively contribute to the development of the country after the war.\r\n\r\nStrategy:\r\nOur strategy is to set up in collaboration with the local chiefs and the communities in the regions, durable plantations in different chiefdoms of the country. The profit made from these plantations will be used to set up and support Educational Resource Centers in several districts of Sierra Leone.\r\n\r\nThe center would offer educational services to children who have successfully entered the junior secondary schools and the youths who were left out of school. The centers would also offer continued education services to those who dropped out of the educational system.",

"description": "The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a women’s trade union that was started in Gujarat in 1972 by Smt. Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. To work with partners to bridge the gap in government services and increase the availability subsidized or free sexual, reproductive and other health services and advocating for availability, accessibility and quality of public services.\r\nSome of the schemes that SEWA actively works on are:\r\n• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY Maternity benefit for institutional delivery)\r\n• Minority schemes\r\n• National Rural Employment Guarantee Act \r\n• RSBY- insurance for BPL families\r\n• Indira Avas Yojana\r\n• Ladli: Education of the girl child\r\n• Old age and widow pension\r\n• Worker schemes: ex. Bidi cards and entitlements, \r\n• Death benefits\r\n• Disability certification and benefits\r\n• Birth, death and BPL certificates",

"description": "The Sector Efficiency Improvement Unit (SEIU) was established in 2008 within the Ministry responsible for the guidance and implementation of the water supply and sanitation programmes of the Government of Nepal. It is currently a unit of the Water and Environment Division of the Ministry of Urban Development.\r\n\r\nIn the last decades Nepal has achieved remarkable progress in water supply coverage and service delivery, while the last ten years has seen an inspiring uptake of sanitation in the country, leading to a rapid increase in coverage. The Nepal census of 2011 measured safe water supply coverage as 85% and sanitation as 61% (status as of June 2011, National Population and Housing Census, Central Bureau of Statistics, November 2012).\r\n\r\nOn the positive side this means that Nepal has already achieved the MDG goals for water supply and sanitation. However, the quality of service and the overall functionality of water supply systems does not meet the standards set by the Government of Nepal. To correct this situation and work towards a cohesive, harmonized water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector, the Government of Nepal in 2008 indicated its intent to move to a sector-wide approach (SWAp). The SWAp is a joint effort of all Government agencies, Development Partners, CSOs and other stakeholders working in WASH. It is coordinated by the Sector Stakeholder Group (SSG).",

"description": "The Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) is an independent agency for coordinating a comprehensive development agenda for the northern savannah ecological zone in Ghana. The area comprises the three Northern regions of Ghana namely, Upper East, Upper West and the Northern Region, and stretches to include districts contiguous to the Northern region that are located North of Brong-Ahafo and north of the Volta region. SADA constitutes Ghana’s response to effects of climate change associated with floods and draught.\r\n\r\nThe agency’s main thrust is to promote sustainable development using the notion of a forested and green north to catalyze climate change reversal and improve livelihoods of the most vulnerable citizens in the area. The strategy being developed will provide opportunities for poor peasants, especially women, to own assets in economic tress, sustain their food crop production and protect the fragile eco-system of the northern savannah by managing the flood-prone river-beds better.",
