The objective is to assist in improving local knowledge and putting local talent to use by offering cost-efficient IT-solutions to projects in developing countries.\r\n\r\nIn the industrialised world, computers are replaced every three to four years, meaning that companies are increasingly looking for sustainable ways to replace their used devices. At the same time, millions of computers are needed in developing countries.\r\n\r\nIt is here that Close the Gap creates win-win situations. By supplying developing countries with high-quality refurbished IT equipment that is donated by Western countries, Close the Gap creates practical, social and sustainable solutions that enable people to bring about a true change in their lives through the use of IT.\r\n\r\nSince its founding in 2003, Close the Gap has managed to reinstall tens of thousands of PCs donated by companies in Europe, offering local communities and individuals access to information. With the right tools, people in developing countries can significantly improve the quality of their lives. Access to communication technologies is predominantly vital in enabling them to reach this objective. Computers are used for a large variety of applications and have consequently become an essential part of the personal, educational and professional world. One tends to forget that one of the basic assets provided by computers is access to all kinds of information. Hence, the difference that access to information can make to a person’s life is immeasurable.\r\n\r\nWhen donations are made, Close the Gap’s logistic partner collects the IT equipment. It is then checked by professionals, repaired if needed and reconfigured before it is sent off to a designated project.\r\n\r\nClose the Gap is mostly active in Africa, but also in other developing countries in South-East Asia and South-America. The organisation mainly supports projects in the socio-educational sector, such as schools, universities, hospitals and other programmes focusing on the improvement of educational and information facilities.\r\n\r\nHowever diverse the projects may be, they all have one common denominator: to focus on advancing both the individual and the community within a spirit of social education.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 133, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 303, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 543, "latitude": 5.555717, "longitude": -0.196306, "city": "Accra", "state": "Accra Region", "address_1": "Nungua Barrier, Sakumono", "address_2": "Regimanuel Estates", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "GH", "country": 11, "location_target": 303 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/2d/fe/2dfeed11f1a6a7452a6626d2c74eb3f4.jpg", "latitude": "5.555717", "longitude": "-0.196306", "city": "Accra", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2010-12-16T15:22:16+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2016-03-08T09:26:29.285027+01:00", "name": "SEND GHANA", "long_name": "SEND GHANA", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 21, "iati_org_id": "", "url": "www.sendwestafrica.org", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+233-0302716860", "mobile": "+233-0244318807", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Mohammed Mumuni", "contact_email": "bonnayoo@yahoo.com", "description": "SEND-West Africa is a consolidation of three autonomous national non-governmental organisations: SEND-Ghana, SEND-Liberia and SEND-Sierra Leone with each country programme guided by an independent strategic plan. In 2000, SEND-Ghana started the implementation of its first programme – the Eastern Corridor Livelihood Security Promotion Programme (ECLSPP) – aimed at addressing practical development needs of communities through an integrated approach to service delivery. \r\n\r\nSEND Liberia is the second oldest and largest Program. Efforts to establish it started in 1999 but this initiative was aborted due to the escalation of the civil war at the time. It operates worldwide with organisations in countries where people suffer from poverty and its many consequences on nutrition, health, and the opportunity to participate in social and political life. DED's goal is to improve these people's lives fundamentally. As a public-benefit organisation, DED cooperates with local partners. DED technical advisers are experienced and committed experts on limited-term assignments, who work with local active organisations to induce positive change. DED also works with local experts and specialists to ensure the sustainability of this development process, thereby strengthening local competences and partner organisations' responsibility and initiative, so that local people can shape their future themselves in the long term. DED technical advisers in turn benefit from the knowledge, experience and contacts of their local colleagues. This knowledge is of inestimable value for effective cooperation.\r\nDED also offers young people the opportunity to gain experience worldwide. The Young Professionals Programme is a scholarship scheme which enables young people embarking on a career and university graduates to work in a project during a one-year stay in a DED partner country, to get to know how DED and its partners work, and to develop social competence for living and working in another culture. The Young Professionals Programme is intended to encourage them and, at the same time, enhance their subsequent opportunities to work in development cooperation institutions in Germany and abroad. DED also offers young people aged 18 to 23 the opportunity to participate in \"weltwärts\" – the international volunteer programme of the German Federal Government.\r\nDED operates on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). With its nuanced range of personnel and services, DED is recognised worldwide as one of the leading European development services for personnel cooperation. The International Center currently has programs in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The International Center has five programs: the U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum, the New Forests Project, Veterans International/Cambodia, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation and IC Sports Corps.\r\n\r\nThe U.S.-Vietnam Trade Council Education Forum (USVTC-EF) has played a major leadership role in building the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam. USVTC-EF seeks the full normalization of U.S.-Vietnam relations; helps create essential policy frameworks for building a new economic partnership between the two nations; and provides assistance for the establishment of links that increase bilateral trade and investment. USVTC-EF has played a key role in the negotiation and implementation of the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and Vietnam's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and continues to work closely with Vietnam on next steps in Vietnam's economic integration and development.\r\n\r\nThe New Forests Project (NFP) supports reforestation and agroforestry projects in the developing world that protect and restore natural forests, reverse land degradation and promote land-use practices that increase productivity and sustainability. NFP consists of two protects: the World Seed Program and the Clean Water initiative. The World Seed Program supplies free seeds and other supplies to in-country partners who redistribute the seeds locally. NFP also provides agroforestry trainings, small grants for the purchase of equipment for reforestation efforts among other things. Since 1982, NFP has helped plant over 8 million trees around the globe. The Clean Water Initiative supports local water associations, committees and organizations in their efforts to provide clean, reliable water and sanitation services to rural communities in Central America and the Caribbean.\r\n\r\nVeterans International Cambodia (VIC) assists in the rehabilitation of Cambodians living with disabilities and helps them to lead active, fulfilling lives. VIC' s goal is to support victims of war and poverty who are often living on the margins of society. VIC supports three rehabilitation centers across Cambodia where people with disabilities receive rehabilitation services, prosthetics, orthotics, and other equipment. Patients also have the opportunity to meet with self- help groups and community organizations. These groups allow people with disabilities and their family members to socialize, share their experiences, and build self-confidence. Groups are given microloans to manage and start small, self-sustaining co-op projects such as fish farms or rice banks. Members are encouraged to have a voice and become involved in their community' s development.\r\n\r\nFounded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) is a humanitarian organization that addresses the consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service in Vietnam. VVAF receives grants from the Department of State and other organizations to conduct landmine clearance projects in Vietnam with the Technology Centre for Bomb and Mine Disposal Engineering Command (BOMICEN). VVAF and its project partners carryout surveys to collect information about the prevalence and burden of the most common mental disorders and the effects this has on the individuals and their families. VVAF is also engaged in upgrading and constructing schools in various provinces around Vietnam.\r\n\r\nThe International Center' s Sports Corps Division aims to improve understanding between the people of developing countries and the United States through the medium of youth sports. Our sport exchange programs create a dynamic environment for youth of various SE Asian countries to better understand each other and demonstrate how sports can overcome economic, religious, and geographic differences. These exchange programs, mainly focusing on young women and their coaches, seek to empower, teach, and inspire these women to improve themselves and their communities through sport.", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 596, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] } ] }{ "count": 6073, "next": "
