FIT is part of a network of organizations initiated by ILO in six African Countries in East Central and West Africa in the early 90s. FIT has identified personnel to be a key resource in development and therefore places Capacity Building at the core of its activities.\r\n\r\nFIT believes that effective services that blend well with the objectives of development agencies, governments and those of target beneficiaries will increase growth and generate employment. Our strategy for sustainable livelihoods is to improve the supply of sustainable development services and skills to communities and SMEs through capacity building and access to markets and or services.\r\n\r\nIn Kenya and most countries in Sub Saharan Africa 80% of the population reside in rural areas with approximately 90% deriving their livelihoods from agriculture and agriculture related activities. The highest poverty levels are also to be found in the rural areas. FIT has therefore concentrated on promoting initiatives in the rural areas aimed at promoting agriculture as a business.\r\n\r\nFIT therefore believes that targeting the poorest people to be able to participate in their own development will spur sustainable poverty alleviation across board. Hence FIT Programmes have focused on promoting initiatives that are cost effective and can be implemented by the people themselves.\r\n\r\nFIT Resources offers exceptional collective knowledge and experience in innovative approaches to agricultural & enterprise development, intervention design, implementation and evaluation, management, and diversification of income resources among the rural poor. Our programmes have helped many entrepreneurs and development organizations to restructure and rationalize and commercialize their activities in order to improve wealth creation leading to improved and sustainable livelihoods.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat we do\r\n\r\nBroadly, FIT promotes SME development through:\r\n\r\n•\tResearch\r\n•\tDesign and implementation of programmes\r\n•\tProject analysis, design and or management \r\n•\tMonitoring and Evaluation of SME projects\r\n•\tCapacity building for institutions who work with SMEs\r\n\r\nMain Focus\r\n\r\nFIT works with and through:\r\n\r\n•\tMedia houses in the development and implementation of commercially viable media programmes that benefit smallholder farmers mainly in rural communities. FIT builds capacities of Media staff and consultants,\r\n•\tDonors, Governments and trade associations that promote smallholder farmers in specific sub-sectors especially honey and the horticultural sub-sectors. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants working for governments and donors and,\r\n•\tFinancial institutions that support micro-entrepreneurs in agribusiness. FIT builds capacities of staff and consultants in financial institutions. \r\n\r\n\r\nStandards and Monitoring\r\n\r\nAll FIT projects are subject to continuous monitoring, feedback and regular reviews to ensure that the assignments are completed within prescribed timeframe and emerging issues consistently addressed.\r\n\r\nInstitutional Links\r\n\r\nNetworking is a fundamental component of FIT’s business strategy. FIT was established by ILO as a network of organisations in six East, Central and West Africa. The network provides FIT enormous opportunities experience sharing and support amongst the network members. FIT has received support from various donor agencies who include the Dutch Government, ILO Technical Assistance, Department for International Development (DfID) and Micro Enterprise Support Programme of the European Union.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 232, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 574, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 439, "latitude": -12.959512, "longitude": 28.634266, "city": "Ndola", "state": " ", "address_1": "Plot 3 Bupingulo Road, Northrise", "address_2": "", "postcode": "", "iati_country": "ZM", "country": 25, "location_target": 574 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/08/9a/089a0993886baaf0abf01a22b8445407.jpg", "latitude": "-12.959512", "longitude": "28.634266", "city": "Ndola", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-02-02T16:50:47+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:58.703420+01:00", "name": "NYRC", "long_name": "Ndola Youth Resource Centre", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+260212617192", "mobile": "", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Mr Isaac Chanda", "contact_email": "isaacchanda@gmail.com", "description": "The Ndola Youth Resource Centre (NYRC) is a youth and women organization established to introduce, raise awareness and integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the various sectors of development of youth and women interest.\r\n\r\nThe NYRC works with the Provincial Youth Development Office with regards to coordination and implementation of most youth developmental programmes. In that view, water is a key element. Given its expertise in this field, PROTOS particularly stands up for equitable, sustainable and participatory water management in the North and the South.\r\n- Equitable water management assumes solidarity amongst all users, whereby each individual has the right to sufficient water quantities for a well-balanced human development.\r\n- Sustainable water management seeks to optimally use the available water sources without threatening the other users, the environment or the future.\r\n- Participatory water management requires the involvement of each individual and community, including disadvantaged groups, providing the opportunity for them to take control of their own future. In this, a fair gender balance has to be respected.\r\nPROTOS wants to achieve these objectives by:\r\n- Supporting participatory development programmes in the South: via an improvement of access to water, and of distribution and/or valorisation of water, PROTOS aims to improve the socio-economic situation of the local population.\r\n- Being a lever: by strengthening the capacities, the vision and the position of organisations that are able to capitalize on the knowledge fostered by these programmes and capable of making profit of this knowledge in the future.\r\n- Stimulating the cooperation between all parties involved in the planning and implementation of local development, including the civil society organisations and the local authorities.\r\n- Stimulating the debate on the equitable, sustainable and participatory water resources management in both the North and the South. The experiences of PROTOS and its partner organisations are able to contribute to this debate.\r\n", "notes": "", "can_create_projects": false, "enforce_program_projects": false, "use_project_roles": false, "public_iati_file": true, "enforce_2fa": false, "can_become_reporting": false, "iati_prefixes": null, "primary_location": 478, "content_owner": null, "original": null, "password_policy": null, "codelist": null, "internal_org_ids": [] }, { "id": 567, "total_budgets": [], "recipient_org_budgets": [], "region_budgets": [], "country_budgets": [], "total_expenditures": [], "documents": [], "locations": [ { "id": 289, "latitude": -1.292066, "longitude": 36.821946, "city": "Nairobi", "state": " ", "address_1": "P.O Box 40603", "address_2": "", "postcode": "00100", "iati_country": "KE", "country": 27, "location_target": 567 } ], "logo": "https://storage.googleapis.com/akvo-rsr-production-media-files/cache/3d/44/3d44a983e1ad6d439d33674b22ee13ce.jpg", "latitude": "-1.292066", "longitude": "36.821946", "city": "Nairobi", "current_user_permissions": { "can_create_iati_export": false, "can_edit_iati_export": false }, "created_at": "2012-01-31T20:41:10+01:00", "last_modified_at": "2015-02-26T13:56:55.523483+01:00", "name": "HSHC", "long_name": "Help Self Help Centre", "language": "en", "organisation_type": "N", "currency": "EUR", "new_organisation_type": 22, "iati_org_id": null, "url": "http://www.hshc.or.ke/", "facebook": "", "twitter": "", "linkedin": "", "phone": "+254 20 2694136", "mobile": "+254 720005717", "fax": "", "contact_person": "Bernard Muchiri", "contact_email": "info@hshc.or.ke", "description": "Help Self Help Centre (HSHC) is a local Kenyan NGO, founded in 1993. Specifically, we work on four program areas: Agribusiness, Natural Resource Management (NRM), Nature Based Enterprises (NBE) and Climatic Change: All these programs are interlinked and they influence one another. \r\n\r\nThe innovativeness of HSHC programs is demonstrated by being the first organization in Kenya to have produced biodiesel commercially from natural seeds. We have also managed to commercialize a forest based essential oil (cape chestnut) using a unique business model that is meant to maximize local returns and motivate people to conserve the forest. These two has offered a concrete alternative income stream to local farmers in an environment that is increasingly becoming unfriendly to agriculture because of the impact of climatic change.", It is located in Kajiado town, a distance of 80kms from Nairobi. It was registered in 2001 under the NGO Act (1990) and has been active in Kajiado central district since then. NOSIM is led by women from the marginalized Maasai community and aims to counter the negative cultural practices that affect health and gender relations within the Maasai community. The organization focuses on cultural issues like female genital mutilation (FGM), human/children’s rights, water and sanitation, livelihoods, education (especially the girl child) and HIV&AIDS.\r\n\r\nThe primary purpose of NOSIM is to empower women and children in the Maasai pastoral community to identify and achieve their own development initiatives and promote decision making. The organization’s development approach is described as based on participation, women empowerment, local capacity building/training, gender equality, advocacy, sustainability and accountability. The organization considers the development of strong linkages with the community as a priority in the attainment of its programmatic and organizational goals. The organization has established strong linkages with women groups and other organized social groups. \r\n\r\nNOSIM’s vision is described as ‘An empowered Maasai woman and girl child enjoying equal opportunities to enable them to maximize life’s opportunities’. Their mission is ‘to create awareness and sensitization to the Maasai girl child and woman which will empower them to operate in an enabling environment’. \r\n\r\nWASH is one of the four strategic pillars in the work of NOSIM, besides Livelihoods, Health and Education. NOSIM’s activities on WASH specifically consist of borehole drilling, extension of pipelines, establishment of water drinking points, introduction of hand washing with soap, and introduction and increasing of latrine use. They address WASH mainly from an institutional perspective, focusing on schools. \r\n\r\nNOSIM has a good working relationship with the government. The government of Kenya provides technical support to NOSIM. In sensitization seminars, relevant ministries provide experts in different professions e.g. health and education officers who facilitate the seminars. The government also provides licensing for projects e.g. borehole drilling and construction activities.
