"description": "Empower Together Kenya Foundation was started in March 2012 to help Community Based Organizations in Kenya to realize their goals.\r\n\r\nThe starting of ETKF was informed by the rapid increase in the gap between the rich and the poor, especially the ones in the local villages. By partnering with the local community based organizations, lack of water, health facilities and lack of school fees for the orphaned & needy children will be addressed. Our main goal is to develop and support sustainable income generating projects for the local CBO that will enable them have a stable livelihood. This will in turn bridge the gap between the rich and the poor as the local community shall have access to clean drinking water, health facilities and orphaned & needy children shall have access to education.\r\n\r\n\r\nVision\r\nAn Independent and empowered local Kenyan communities with sustainable livelihood.\r\n\r\nMission\r\nTo develop and support sustainable income generating projects for the local Kenyan communities.\r\n\r\nObjectives\r\n1. Provide access to clean water and health facilities.\r\n2. Provide access to education to the orphaned & needy children.\r\n3. Sensitize the local community on hygiene especially highlighting the need to have pit latrines done along these four letters; Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS).\r\n4. Link the local community with national and international like-minded partners.\r\n5. To look for international market for the items (hand-made & farm produce) made by the local community.",

"description": "Villa Zapakara was founded in 2009 by Daphne Bruijne and Mirjam Marks, who were inspired by the 'Tropenmuseum Junior', the children's museum of the Museum of the Tropics in Amsterdam. They wanted to give Surinamese children the opportunity to experience something new, to be inspired, and to broaden their horizon. The first exhibition was about the Ashanti in Ghana. In 2011, the second exhibition about India started, which saw over 22.000 visitors. The China exhibition that opened in 2013 has been very well-received, and its tours for school children during weekdays have been fully booked up to a year ahead. The museum's interactive exhibitions invite children to learn about other cultures, follow their curiosity and develop their creativity.",

"description": "What is a Grand Challenge?\r\n\r\nA grand challenge is a specific critical barrier that, if removed, would help solve an important health problem in the developing world, with a high likelihood of global impact through widespread implementation.\r\n\r\nThe first grand challenge was introduced over a century ago in Germany, when Dr. David Hilbert issued 23 challenges in mathematics. By doing so, he inspired a generation of mathematicians. His efforts were successful: nearly all of his challenges have been solved. Grand Challenges Canada will bring the same focus and energy to defining and addressing global health issues.\r\n\r\nGrand Challenges Canada works closely with its Scientific Advisory Board, Board of Directors, and key experts and decision-makers in the area of global health to identify and select Grand Challenges. Grand Challenges Canada’s Board of Directors approves all Grand Challenge topics.",

"description": "The Kibii Foundation is a new and ambitious organization in Suriname founded by a group of people determined to make a change in the lives of hundreds of people in the district of Marowijne. This district where traditional maroon lifestyle and culture are threatened with demise and the young people from its communities fail to see any possibilities for a hopeful future, is offered a new lease on life by the establishment of the Kibii foundation.\r\n\r\nArtist and native of the district of Marowijne Marcel Pinas (Pelgrimkondre, 1971), together with other members of the foundation and a team of local and international supporters, have initiated the Marowijne Project. With its center of activities located in the city of Moengo, the Marowijne Project draws upon the strengths of the art and culture of this beautifully diverse nation to build a new and positive future for the war struck and subsequently neglected communities of Marowijne.\r\n\r\nThe Kibii Foundation aims to create future perspectives for the youth of Marowijne in their own homesteads. In order to achieve this, the organization will create a multitude of developmental opportunities through an Art Park and a Multi-Cultural Center in the district of Marowijne, based upon the promotion of art, culture and tourism.",

This flagship project is being supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through the Ministry of Health, who are currently conducting a Randomised Control Trial through IPA (Innovations for Poverty Action) to establish the impact of CHCs on community health. \r\n\r\nOur team is a dedicated group of local development practitioners based out of Zimbabwe and Rwanda, committed to assisting rural and urban communities in developing countries improve their standards of living through safe hygiene, water, sanitation and poverty alleviation, women's empowerment, food security and sustainable livelihoods using Community Health Clubs as a vehicle for change. \r\n\r\nTo this end we provide assistance in all aspects of a CHC programme, including feasibility, design, development of training materials, training of trainers, research, monitoring and evaluation, and are the foremost organization for research, dissemination, advocacy and mentoring in the Community Health Club Approach. \r\n\r\nWe support local and international NGOs, Agencies and particularly strengthening Environmental Health Departments within Ministries of Health in Africa. "description": "The Good Shepherd Foundation(TGS) is een initiatief van enkele ondernemers en professionals uit het bedrijfsleven die doordrongen zijn van de onrechtvaardige en schrikbarende kloof tussen de levensomstandigheden in het rijke westen en de derde wereld.\r\n\r\nVanuit hun maatschappelijke betrokkenheid is besloten om te proberen hier op een pragmatische en doortastende wijze iets aan te doen.
