"description": "In 2000 Kazi Mashambani Development Programme (KAMADEP) was registered as a national NGO in Kenya. The NGO has since established all requisite governance, management and administrative structures. It has five board of directors. i.e 3 male 2 female. Under them are executive director, programme manager and other field and supportive staff. \r\nIt exists to work with the most poor and marginalized members of the communities to reduce poverty through utilization of resources in a sustainable manner. It does this by strengthening the capacity of local individuals, groups and communities in projects that concern them so that they can own and manage them more effectively at the project completion period. "description": "SEND-West Africa is a consolidation of three autonomous national non-governmental organisations: SEND-Ghana, SEND-Liberia and SEND-Sierra Leone with each country programme guided by an independent strategic plan. SEND became operational in Ghana in 1998; Liberia in 2004; and Sierra-Leone in 2007. Informed by the marked differences in the political and economic contexts of these countries, each country programme has separate management and programming strategies to respond effectively to the respective country needs and peculiarities.\r\n\r\nSEND-Ghana is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in August 1998 with the maiden name: Social Enterprise Development (SEND) Foundation of West Africa. In 2000, SEND-Ghana started the implementation of its first programme – the Eastern Corridor Livelihood Security Promotion Programme (ECLSPP) – aimed at addressing practical development needs of communities through an integrated approach to service delivery. \r\n\r\nSEND Liberia is the second oldest and largest Program. Efforts to establish it started in 1999 but this initiative was aborted due to the escalation of the civil war at the time. In 2003 the comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended the war was achieved and SEND, like most civil society organizations, in 2004, renewed engagement with Liberia by registering with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs.\r\n\r\nSEND Sierra Leone’s programme aims to alleviate poverty and promote equality between women and men in Kailahun District. Through its projects SEND-Sierra Leone applies a participatory integrated development approach, which promotes gender equality and includes advocacy for the poor.It aims to work to address basic needs, as well as the systemic causes of poverty and injustice.",

"description": "Plan Liberia has been recognized and certificated by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs, Republic of Liberia to legally operate within its borders as an international non-government organization. See attached Certification of Accreditation. \r\n\r\nPlan began operations in Liberia in 1982, focusing on community-based programming in water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental services, as well as education health and livelihoods. Over the years, Plan has partnership with the Government of Liberia, civil society organizations, children, families and communities to ensure better growth and development of Liberian children. Plan Liberia has learned that a blend of national level and community-based programming is necessary for the fulfillment of the rights of all children in Liberia. Between 1982 and 1993, Plan Liberia’s work reached over 200,000 Liberian children, their parents, caregivers and communities. In 1993, Plan suspended its operations in Liberia due to escalating security risks, but resumed operations in the country in 2006. Plan has its Country Office in Monrovia, as well as a Programme Unit (PU) in Lofa County in northern Liberia, and another PU in Bomi County in western Liberia. Plan also has sub-offices in Nimba County and Grand Gedeh County. These offices focus mainly on providing education and child protection in emergencies, particularly for Ivorian refugees and their host communities.\r\n",

"description": "History\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger was founded in 1979 by a group of French intellectuals in response to the emergency in Afghanistan. These included Françoise Giroud, Bernard Henri Lévy, Marek Halter, Alfred Kastler (a Nobel Laureate in physics), Guy Sorman, Jacques Attali, and several other doctors, journalists and writers. While the fight against hunger had previously been an element of more general humanitarian action (the fight against poverty, promoting better health, etc.) they founded an organization that was exclusively dedicated to ending hunger. Action against Hunger is now recognized as one of the leading organizations in the fight against hunger worldwide.\r\n\r\n• 1979 \r\nCreation of Action Against Hunger. The organization forms part of a new generation of independent NGos (non-governmental organisations) that reject silence surrounding injustice and seek to bear witness and report on atrocities, while taking action to end them.\r\n\r\n• 1995 \r\nAction Against Hunger has developed within the framework of an interdependent international network (ACF-IN) and has opened two additional headquarters in Madrid and London to better respond to the needs of populations. \r\n\r\n• 1997 \r\nThe network expanded with the opening of a fourth headquarters in New York.\r\n\r\n• 2005\r\nOpening of a fifth headquarters in Montreal.\r\nOur fight\r\nAction contre la Faim (ACF) was founded by a group of prominent French figures in response to the emergency caused by Afghan refugees fleeing to Pakistan to escape fighting in 1979, with the aim of eradicating hunger in a more global, lasting and effective way worldwide.\r\n \r\nWhile the fight against hunger had previously been integrated into more general humanitarian action (the fight against poverty, promoting better health, etc.), ACF’s founder members created an organization specializing in the problems associated with hunger.\r\n \r\nACF’s mission consists of saving lives via the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and following disasters and conflicts. The organization focuses its activities on an integrated approach, taking various aspects into account:\r\n \r\n • Nutrition, health and health care practices\r\n • Food security and livelihoods\r\n • Water, sanitation and hygiene\r\n • Advocacy and awareness-raising\r\n \r\nIn 2009, ACF-International was active in over 40 countries, coming to the aid of around 5 million individuals. By integrating our programs with regional and national systems, ACF is ensuring that short-term actions are becoming long-term solutions.\r\n\r\nACF Principles\r\n\r\nIn all of its activities, ACF abides by the following principles set out in its charter.\r\n\r\nIndependence\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger acts according to its own principles so as to maintain its moral and financial independence. Actions against Hunger’s actions are not defined in terms of domestic or foreign policies nor in the interest of any particular government.\r\n\r\nNeutrality\r\n\r\nA victim is a victim. Action against Hunger maintains a strict political and religious neutrality. Nevertheless, Action against Hunger may denounce human rights violations that it has witnessed as well as obstacles put in the way of its humanitarian action.\r\n\r\nNon discrimination\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger refutes all discrimination based on race, sex, ethnicity, religion, nationality, opinion or social cclass. Free and direct access to victims.Action against Hunger demands free access to victims and direct control of its programs. Action against Hunger uses all means available to achieve these principles and will denounce and act against any obstacle preventing it from doing so. Action against Hunger also verifies the allocation of its resources to ensure that the resources reach those individuals for whom they are destined. Under no circumstances can partners working together with or alongside Action against Hunger become the ultimate beneficiaries of Action against Hunger aid programs.\r\n\r\nProfessionalism\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger bases the conception, realization, management and assessment of its programs on professional standards and its years of experience to maximize its efficiency and the use of resources.\r\n\r\nTransparency\r\n\r\nAction against Hunger is committed to respecting a policy of total transparency to beneficiaries, partners and donors and encourages the availability of information on the allocation and management of its funds. Action against Hunger is also committed to providing guarantees of its good management.",

"description": "\r\nNRT – Our Commitment to Change\r\nIn the harsh environment of northern Kenya, pastoralist communities struggle with frequent droughts, poor health care, sparse government services and the threats posed by cattle rustling and ivory poaching. At the same time, ethnic rivalries continue to hinder development and disrupt lives. However, all this is beginning to change, thanks to a new movement based on community conservation\r\n\r\nHow NRT works\r\nNRT was established in 2004. Its mission is to develop resilient secure peace and conserve natural resources. It does this in a number of ways. It raises funds for the conservancies. It provides them with advice on how to manage their affairs. It supports a wide range of training and helps broker agreements between conservancies and investors. It also monitors performance, providing donors with a degree of oversight and quality assurance.\r\nNRT’s highest governing body is the Council of Elders. The chairs of the conservancies make up the majority, and are joined by institutional members representing county councils, local wildlife forums, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the private sector. The Council guides NRT policy and is responsible for drawing up the bylaws for its operation and administration. It also appoints eight of the 15-member Board of Directors, to whom the chief executive officer is answerable.\r\nNRT is now widely seen as a model of how to support community conservancies. Its success has helped shape new government regulations on establishing, registering and managing community conservancies in Kenya.\r\n\r\nThe role of community conservancies \r\nBy the end of 2014, 27 community conservancies, operating under the umbrella of the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), were managing over 30,000 km² of land and safeguarding the future of a wide range of species, from elephant to Grevy’s zebra, from the endangered hirola to rhinoceros. With more than 60% of Kenya’s wildlife living outside formally protected areas, community conservancies will assume ever greater importance.\r\n\r\nImpact on Wildlife, Environment and Livelihood\r\n\r\nThe conservancies have brought about significant improvements in rangeland management and helped to stabilize, and frequently increase, wildlife populations. The area of land with significant biodiversity under improved conservation management increased from 5,400 km² in 2008 to over 27,400 km² in 2013. Conservancy rangers, supported by NRT, are play¬ing a significant role in tackling ivory poaching and other wild¬life crimes. Just as importantly, the conservancies have helped to bring peace and security to areas which have been plagued by violent conflict. \r\nWith the help of NRT, the conservancies created over 800 per¬manent jobs, and a further 830 casual jobs, in 2013, and im¬proved the welfare of a significant proportion of the 320,000 people whom they serve. They have generated millions of dol¬lars of investment, brought much-needed services to remote areas – for example, over 1,810 young people benefited from school and university bursaries in 2013 – and helped to change the mindsets of marginalized communities, who are now in¬creasingly willing to take charge of their own destinies.\r\n",
