In order to create publicity for this project, Robert Knol will attempt on 24 january 2011 a Guinness World Record of cycling single-handed in less than 80 days from Cairo (Egypt) to Cape-Town (South Africa). The expedition can be followed on the website www.11000km.nl. \r\n\r\nThe past years the Friends of Nyanje foundation supported pupils of the Nyanje hospital employees by donating money for scholarships and supply of school-desks.",

"description": "At least 265 Organisations, Churches, Mosques, Schools and other Community Groups take part in the trainings by Kitale AIDS Programme. Whilst in some areas these organisations group themselves as registered Community Based Organisations (CBO's) elsewhere they take up the responsibilities for their community volunteers individually. Although very different in character all organisations share in the task of mainstreaming HIV/AIDS and its related issues in their respective communities. Whilst doing so they make many contributions in kind such as provision of free venues, no rent for office space, totally voluntary educational activities (sessions, theatre performances, club work etc), help for sick and needy people, greatly reduced food expenses and sometimes even payment for own food. Translated into monetary terms this accounts to at least 8.400 Euro per year. If the now completely voluntary efforts of 1.230 active community volunteers would be paid at the common rate of 15 Euro per month this would translate into an additional 221.400 Euro per year!",

"description": "Finland’s Development Policy\r\n\r\nDevelopment policy is a key element of a coherent and comprehensive foreign and security policy. Poverty reduction and the achievement of the UN millennium development goals (MDGs), placing an emphasis on partner countries’ needs and ownership, are the first priorities of the development policy.\r\n\r\nIn its own development cooperation, Finland emphasises the rule of law, democracy, human rights and sustainable development. The special priorities are education, decent work, reducing youth unemployment and improving the status of women and children.\r\n\r\nIn these activities, Finland builds on its strengths in the educational sector, health promotion, communications and environmental technology, and good governance.\r\n\r\nThe effectiveness and impact of development cooperation will be strengthened. Efforts will be made to enhance Finland’s involvement in and contribution to multilateral cooperation. In its development policy, Finland emphasises coherence as well as, quality and effectiveness of aid.\r\n\r\nAssistance provided by Finland will be less fragmented and coordination with other donor countries and organisations will be increased. Finland supports greater coherence and effectiveness in the European Union’s development policy.\r\n\r\nFinland aims to ensure stable development of appropriations, leading to the target level 0.7% share of GDP and meeting Finland’s international commitments.\r\n\r\nThe Government will prepare a development policy action plan and issue a report on the effectiveness and consistency of development policy.",

"description": "Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) is an NGO registered at the District Administration Office, Jumla under the Society Registration Act, 1978, and is affiliated to the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu. It has been in operation in Karnali Zone since 1999 with its central office located in Jumla district with offices in four other districts viz. Kalikot, Humla, Mugu and Dolpa, a Program Support Office at Nepalgunj and a Coordination Office in Kathmandu. \r\n\r\nKarnali Zone is endowed with abundant natural resources like flora, fauna, water, agriculture, horticulture, tourism, mines, minerals, lakes etc. But, unfortunately, these have not been tapped to the least for the benefits of the people for their livelihood improvement due to continued state neglect such as lack of appropriate development policies and commitment for Karnali Zone. As a result, the people of Karnali Zone continued to remain very poor deprived of adequate basic facilities like health, education, food, employment, markets, communication etc. since time immemorial and falls at the bottom of Human Development Index. More so, the caste and gender discrimination in Karnali Zone is comparatively high resulting in lack of access of women, Dalits and marginalized people to resources, opportunities and decision making processes from social, economical and political perspectives. To add more to the woes, the situation in Karnali Zone was further aggravated due to the Maoist movement which culminated into a fierce armed clash with the State resulting in serious human rights violation with a death toll of nearly 700 people, abduction and disappearance of more than 300, torture and detention of more than 800 and displacement of more than 7000 people.",

"description": "BoldSteps Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Tamale and Navrongo, Northern Ghana, with initiatives spread so far in the Northern and Upper East Regions of Ghana.\r\n \r\nIn operation as a team since 2008, BoldSteps has chalked a number of success in the areas of operation.\r\nThe BoldSteps team is one of young people seeking to achieve the goal of “Achieving Rural Development One Bold Step at a Time”.\r\nIn 2009 and 2010 we have succeeded in setting up a library for the youth of Kajelo, a rural area off the Paga - Navrongo highway. The library was initially stocked with donated books from some libraries across the world. Most of the initial set of books in the library do not have local content although are good for general knowledge reading purposes. We were able o successfully raise funds from local and international friends to acquire books recommended by the Ghana Education Service for all levels of education. \r\nTo engage the youth further, BoldSteps has set up the KYTE Centre which serves a multi-purpose location for the youth of Kajelo. BoldSteps, through the centre currently sponsors an U15 football tournament . Football is about the only sport capable of bringing all youth together even without prior announcement or at short notice.\r\n \r\nOur ability to organise the youth even at short notice has been taken advantage of and currently we use that and our over two dozen volunteers to educatepeople with aim of reducing HIV/AIDS Stigmatisation. So it’s really easy to understand where your money goes. And it’s really easy to make a difference. You don’t even need to change your habits, just the products in your shopping basket.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe’re a registered UK charity, working with communities in Africa to address some of the most pressing humanitarian issues of the day, including clean drinking water, HIV, nutrition and sanitation.\r\n\r\nWe aim to focus our efforts where it’s needed most, funding like-for-like projects through the sale of One products and services.",

"description": "Visakha Jilla Nava Nirmana Samithi (VJNNS) was established in 1972 and shifted its headquarters in 1980 from Visakhapatnam to Narsipatnam, an agency gateway, to work with rural population in general and tribals in particular. \r\n\r\nVJNNS is firmly founded on secular principles without any political overtones. Sri A.L. Narasimha Murthy, the pioneer conceived the idea of establishing a service society after being inspired by the Gandhian concept of “Grama Swaraj”. The multi sectoral activities, which the organization aims at include economic development, social upliftment, improving health, sanitary conditions and literacy status besides protecting the environment with all its Bio-diversity. \r\n\r\nTo begin with, the VJNNS undertook activities relating to Khadi and Village Industries. Later on the organization extended its activity towards ensuring water supply besides land development. The organization is privileged to enrich itself with its partnership with 22 International and 20 local agencies, which include the Govt. of India for grounding various development and welfare activities, which are in tune with the basic objectives of the organization.
