"description": "The Silentworld Foundation was founded with the purpose of supporting maritime archaeology in Australia, especially relative to pre-colonial and early colonial history.\r\n\r\nAustralia has an extremely rich maritime history and yet despite the tremendous efforts over the years of many institutions throughout Australia, we still know surprisingly little about the wrecking of many historically important vessels known to have been lost in or near Australia. There also remains a great deal to be discovered about early seafarers' contacts with Australia, from Macassar traders and the explorers from Spain, The Netherlands, Britain, France and other nations, through to eventual colonisation with the arrival of the first fleet in 1788. The reefs and shoals that surround our coastline are literally dotted with wrecks, more than some 6,000 by some counts, and yet only a small percentage of these have ever been found, identified, researched and properly documented.",

"description": "The Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is a women’s trade union that was started in Gujarat in 1972 by Smt. Elaben Bhatt, with the aim of organising women in the informal sector. SEWA represents the convergence of three movements: the labour movement, the women’s movement and the cooperative movement. Based on the philosophy of Gandhiji, SEWA’s goal is to achieve full employment and self-reliance for all its members. \r\n\r\nSEWA defines ‘full employment’ as employment that provides work security, income security, food security and social security. ‘Self-reliance’ refers to economic self–sufficiency and equitable roles in the decision-making process. These goals are achieved through a strategy of “struggle and development”. The struggle is against the many constraints imposed on women by society and the economy, and the development activities are aimed to strengthen women's collective bargaining power and provide them with sustainable new alternatives.\r\n\r\nGenesis of SEWA Bharat: \r\n\r\nSEWA’s experience in Gujarat provided encouragement to women in other states as well, with sister organizations being set up in a total of nine states till date. Together, these sister organizations constitute SEWA Bharat, the All-India Federation of Self Employed Women’s Associations. SEWA’s mandate is to highlight the issues of women working in the informal sector, and to strengthen the capacity of the different organizations that serve them. SEWA Bharat is a membership-based organization.\r\n\r\nLocal community health workers are the cornerstone of SEWA’s health program. Known as sathis, SEWA health workers serve the entire community, and work to organize SEWA members in their villages and neighbourhoods. They are educators, service providers and advocates. \r\n\r\n Objective: \r\nThe objectives of SEWA’s health programme are as follows:\r\n1. To build the community's capacity to demand their sexual and reproductive rights within a broader framework of the rights to health and social security \r\n2. To work with partners to bridge the gap in government services and increase the availability subsidized or free sexual, reproductive and other health services and advocating for availability, accessibility and quality of public services.\r\nSome of the schemes that SEWA actively works on are:\r\n• Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY Maternity benefit for institutional delivery)\r\n• Minority schemes\r\n• National Rural Employment Guarantee Act \r\n• RSBY- insurance for BPL families\r\n• Indira Avas Yojana\r\n• Ladli: Education of the girl child\r\n• Old age and widow pension\r\n• Worker schemes: ex. Bidi cards and entitlements, \r\n• Death benefits\r\n• Disability certification and benefits\r\n• Birth, death and BPL certificates",

"description": "Amref is de belangrijkste Afrikaanse gezondheidsorganisatie; in Nederland heten we Amref Flying Doctors. In Afrika heten we Amref Health Africa. ",

He pursued a PhD degree (Cum laude) at Groningen University, The Netherlands, under the supervision of Professor Gregory Ashworth. His dissertation is titled Colonial Heritage and Ethnic Pluralism; Its socio-psychological meaning in a multiethnic society. \r\n\r\nHis research and teaching expertise include tourism product development and planning; heritage and tourism; uses and meanings of heritage; human resource development and tourism in developing countries; tourism research methods and techniques; sustainability in tourism. At NHTV, he teaches courses in Tourism Management and Heritage Tourism. He also teaches in the scientific Bsc/MA program Tourism in cooperation between NHTV and Wageningen University.\r\n\r\nBoth his dissertation and teaching activities use a combination of social and psychological approaches to the study of heritage and tourism concepts, most notably concepts that are situated on the boundary between the political and socio-psychological uses of heritage and tourism. They include concepts such as ‘sense of place,’ ‘identity’, ‘nation building’, ‘values’ and ‘interpretation’.",

"description": "African Conservation Centre (ACC) is a not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to the development of African Conservation excellence. ACC places emphasis on a three tier approach of integrating Knowledge, Environment and Livelihoods in resolving principal problems facing Biodiversity Conservation in East Africa. To achieve this, ACC serves a number of complimentary functions: Forging interdisciplinary approaches to Conservation advanced training, Research into issues with broad application and policy implications. ACC developed from a small nucleus of Kenya Nationals associated with Wildlife Conservation International (Kenya) WCI, a Division of NYZS the Wildlife Conservation Strategy to respond to conservation challenges in East Africa. In its formative years, ACC pioneered research methods in Ecosystems research and Ecotourism. It also pioneered Community-based Conservation concepts and practices. ACC selects pilot Conservation projects with a high chance of success and broad application in these areas ACC believes in saving African wildlife through sound Science, local initiatives, and good Governance. \r\n\r\nA primary aim is to bring together the people and skills needed to build East Africa’s capacity to conserve Wildlife. ACC achieves its Mission through programs that conserve Ecosystems and maintain continuous and open Landscapes and those that improve the incomes and Livelihoods of local Communities through the sustainable utilization of Wildlife and Natural Resources. ACC also seeks to establish strong Community-based institutional structures that address common and salient conservation and livelihood challenges. ACC’s conservation programs are based on a multi-pronged approach. Although the African Conservation Centre’s core mandate is conservation, this cannot take place in a vacuum. Communities impacted by conservation activities must become part and parcel of the total Conservation efforts. To this end, Scientists studying the conservation of Fauna and Flora or any other Natural Resources increasingly engage with Communities that share the relevant Ecosystems with the subjects of Conservation.",
