"comment": "Before the project interventions, access to improved drinking water in Kicwamba Sub county because their main water source i.e GFS had alot of damages and it wasn't reaching all the villages because of the terrain. HEWASA's efforts were to ensure that major rehabilitation was done on the water source and the other alternatives such as the shallow wells and springs so as to increase the number of people accessing improved water sources. There were repairs and extensions that were made on the GFS increased access to water. More engagements with the district to rehabilitate the other water sources in areas such as Busaiga, Saaka and Geme that were not accessing the GFS. As a result, 3 shallow wells were rehabilitated in these areas leading to an increase in the number of people with access to improved water sources. The above figures were compiled by the sub county water board basing on the number of people in the sub county as per the national census versus the number of functional improved water sources. With all these development, the numbers exceeded the initial project target value.",

"comment": "HEWASA engaged the authorities responsible for the maintenance of the latrines in the public places such as Kihondo Trading centre and Kyakagusa Market. The facilities were in poor conditions and had been abandoned, due to these engagements, the latrines were rehabilitated which led to an increase in the number of people accessing the sanitation facilities. Ecosan latrines at Kitarasa and Mpinga Primary schools were full and had been closed for emptying but after the emptying, they were now also utilized which increased access to sanitation facilities. New latrines were constructed by the local government after HEWASA shared a report on the Pupil stance ratio in these schools. This not only improved the access to sanitation facilities but it also increased the enrollment because parents send their children to schools with enough facilities. At Karago Health centre, the number of people turning up for health services such Anti and Post natal examinations, immunization and HIV treatment was high compared to the sanitation facilities, HEWASA engaged the town council authorities and the district health office on the situation. A new latrine was constructed at the health centre which increased access to improved sanitation facilities. Actual figures disagregated by gender especially for the public places such as local markets are not available. However at least according to the estimates from the sub county production, at least 80% of the people in the markets are females. And at the health center at least 90% of the people are females, 2% are children and 8% men. All these new developments can be attributed to the project efforts thus leading to achievement of a higher figure than the the initial target figure.",
