Bukoba Municipal Council

Bukoba Municipal Council (BMC) is one of the eight local authorities in Kagera region. Other Local Authorities are Bukoba Districts, Missenyi, Karagwe, Muleba, Biharamulo, Chato and Ngara. Bukoba Municipal Council has a total area of 80 square kilometres whereby 22 sq.km of that area is covered by water and the remaining 58sq.km is land.

According to the 2002 National census results Bukoba Municipal Council had a total of 81,221 people with annual growth rate of 4%. The population of Bukoba urban was projected to 102,770 people by December,2008 with annual growth rate of 4%.

Water services in urban area are provided by the Bukoba Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (BUWASA) and in the rural community there is a National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program (NRWSSP) which started early 2007. Bukoba Municipality has a plenty of water sources such as springs, rivers and Lake Victoria.
