Founded in 1970, Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is a non-profit, nondenominational, evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease and famine. The organization serves the church worldwide to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ. With its international headquarters located in the USA and affiliate offices located in the U.K., Canada and Australia, SP has implemented programs for agencies such as USAID, WFP, Global Fund, UNHCR and UNICEF.
Samaritan’s Purse Liberia (SP-L) was established in 2003 and by 2013 has twenty three programs in eight different sectors. It has field bases in Lofa, Gbarpolu, and River Gee, which are supervised from the country headquarters in Monrovia. In partnership with local organizations, SP-L implements major grants on behalf of multilateral donors. Its core competencies are water and sanitation, HIV and AIDS, food security, health and nutrition, reconstruction and rehabilitation, child protection and community-based livelihoods.
