ISA (International Sports Alliance)

International Sports Alliance is a non-profit organisation that supports programmes in the field of sport for development and peace. We consider sport an effective tool for development and peace as it provides a regulated and neutral context where emotions such as aggression, anger and sadness, but also joy and happiness can be expressed and reflected upon. It disregards geographical borders and is a universal language that people all over the world understand. Furthermore it is a cost-effective way to reach large audiences of active participants and non-participants.
In all our activities our overall objective is to improve the capacities and sustainability of local organisations that are located in marginalized and (post)conflict areas. We focus on the needs and requests from local Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that have a wish to initiate or improve sport for development and peace practices. Within our organisation we emphasize and promote the right for participation for all, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, religion or handicap. Among the countries in which we are active are Burkina Faso, Mali, Indonesia, Kenya, Uganda, South-Sudan, Surinam and South Africa.

In order to use sports as a tool for development and peace it is imperative to develop, organise and structure projects and programmes in such a manner that the positive force of sports can be used. International Sports Alliance offers professional competences to develop and improve the works of sustainable sport for development projects and programmes. We offer academic and professional expertise on sports leadership, communication, project planning, organizational management, lobbying and education. Furthermore, we have an extended national and international network of partners, companies and organisations that support our partners with their expertise, and technical and financial support.
