The WASH Alliance International, Plan Netherlands and SNV together form the Netherlands WASH SDG Consortium, which is implementing a 5 year programme. which includes in inception phase of 1 year. The total budget is 59 million Euro’s from the Dutch Government. The programme is working in 7 countries in Africa and Asia (Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda & Zambia).
The proposed locations for the interventions in Nepal for WASH Alliance International are Bheriganga Municipality and Barahatal rural municipality at Surkhet of Karnali Province and Kohalpur Municipality and Barahatal Rural Municipality of Banke of Province 5 . As per the recent baseline survey conducted by WAI at all four intervention area, there is a huge need for improved access to WASH services and facilities at all locations.
In order to achieve the programme goal and objectives, the programme will follow and adopt the WAI theory of change (TOC) approach, diamond model and total sanitation approach (SWASTHA community approach) to implement the program activities in participatory manner. Unlike conventional NGO implementation approach and model, these approaches and model envision the active engagement of local authorities (municipalities) and private sector in providing sustainable WASH services. The proposed activities have been identified considering three TOC pathways via. Demand creation, Private Sector and Public Sector and “Diamond Model” components and support structures of creating enabling and WASH business environments. The program sustainability has been formulated based on the WAI’s FIETS sustainability principles and approach. The program will be implemented in full participation, coordination and support from local stakeholders, national and international Dutch partners. We believe that the new learnings, findings and tangible results would be very useful for the WASH sector as a whole. Fold in
