Promotion of various onfarm rain water harvesting technologies as well as value chain approach to production has been key for DryDev Kenya project. Magdalene and Paul, a household in Yatta Sub county in Machakos illsutrates how farm pond micro-irrigation technology forms a firm foundation for integration of high value crop production as well as commercial production of indigenous poultry (one of the priority value chain commodities) in their 1/8 acre land. Through a 21 member VSLA, Magdalene accessed a credit facility to procure water tank used to support irrigation from the farm pond as well as 32 improved breed of indigenous poultry. Paul, a trained artisan, is reaching out to more farmers in the area with farm pond technology to harvets rain water for production.
