Contact information

The Local Government in Ghana has a long history, which predates before the colonial era where the native authorities (Chiefs) were used to facilitate communication and decision-making in their areas of jurisdiction. After independence, successive governments implemented various forms of Decentralisation and Local Government policies. However, the current decentralisation Policy was initiated in 1988 where the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development functions to promote the establishment and development of a vibrant and well resourced decentralised system of local government for the people of Ghana to ensure good governance and balanced rural based development.
