AKM (Association of Kosovo Municipalities)

The Association of Kosovo Municipalities is a common interest of participants in conditions and environment where it acts. The Association has professional character and in no case political, with the obligation of further democratization of Kosovar society. The Association will serve as strong body between local and central government, by protecting competencies of municipalities from centralist tendencies as well as advancing them in accordance with applicable laws.

The Association beside democratization of society (through democratization of institutions) will work in resolution of common problems, strengthening cooperation amongst municipalities as well as in integration of communities in Kosovar society.

Main aim of the Association is good and successful governance at the local level, by performing the commitment taken in all aspect of social life.

The Association aims harmonization of different levels of government as well as abolishment of unnecessary parallelisms, regardless as where they come from The Association will cooperate and adhere to sister – international – associations as well as relying European Charter of Local Autonomy where it is stated: local communities shall be asked for their opinion, within capacities, at the right time during the processes of planning decisions on the issues directly relevant to them.
