ECC-SDCOH (Ethiopian Catholic Church -Social and Devt. Coordinating Office of Harare)

HCS which is now called ECC-SDCOH was founded as a body of Humanitarian organization in response to drought affected peoples since 1984/5 but officially established in October 1987.

Its vision is to see a society that all its spiritual, physical, and socio-cultural needs are met and where all peoples are living in harmony, solidarity, equality, justice and peace. Thus, it desires to see reconciled, just and prosperous society.

Its Mission is promotion of integral human development- socio-economic and spiritual to ensure growth and self reliance through evangelization, awareness raising and capacity building.

Major Problem of the area

Core Problem: Livelihood Insecurity Caused by:
- Recurrent drought
- Severely degraded environment
- Subsistence agricultural practices characterized by low Input and low output.
- Low primary health coverage
- population pressure
- High prevalence of water born diseases (diarrhea)
- Low level of income diversification opportunities etc..

The overall goal is to alleviate the spiritual and physical sufferings facing the people through promotion of socio pastoral and development programs.
