Dien Bien WRS has 20 years experience in rural water and sanitation. In the last 5 years it run successfully around 30 projects for irrigation, water supply and sanitation, water resource management, introduction of such smart technologies as drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, low-cost boreholes in the 19 districts of Dien Bien province.
The organisation prepared the Dien Bien master plan for water supply for the whole province up to 2020. It provides technical support, governance, appraisal and evaluation to water, sanitation and irrigation programmes of other organisations in the province.
Dien Bien is a poor mountainous area in the North West of Vietnam. The rural population is 391,062 people, water supply coverage is only 60%. Among various ethnic groups the biggest are Kinh, Thai and H'mong.
